Thank you Astrid! I always think of you when I opt for simpler lines. :)

Thnx Sara! That's a good point re: another reason to post outfit repeats. And the colour combination is all thanks to Angie, hehe.

Nice outfit! I didn't see this the first time around as my participation on the forum is sor to spotty. I think the color combination and the insect pin.

Thnx TrekkieGirl! I actually got this coat from Ebay for $20 including shipping (and it has a detachable hood!); there are some serious coat steals to be had in the vintage section. You made me laugh; I only moved north in September. Before then, I’d spent 4 years in south Texas, where it hits 100 in May and stays there until September. I loathed that kind of heat, but it did teach me a lot about summer dressing, so I’ve got that part of my wardrobe covered! I’m still learning about spring dressing up here. :)

Thank you Alasse!

Diane, the only thing Thistle doesn’t like is when it rains, so she’s good with subfreezing temps as it makes snow instead! That day was really an aberration; we’ve been moving between -5 and 5 C for the past couple of weeks, which feels almost balmy after a record-setting cold February.

Thnx Kiwigal! I’m starting to try to incorporate clean lines into my style, to balance out my love of ‘fussier’ details. I love my Rieker Sybilles (that’s what these are) & they’ve survived a dramatic winter without any complaints. In case you need any enabling. ;)

Thank you Karin! I knit the hat myself; I took up knitting a couple of years ago & hats were the first thing I focused on. They’re still the ultimate in relaxing knitting for me. :)

Great look. I think the dress looks great without the belt, I like the clean line. But I am swooning over the coat, boots, scarf, hat and dog combo.....just stunning. I was not planning to update my tall boots collection but these pics make me want to do so badly!!

Oh, how lovely this looks on you E. The warm toned red and brown are lovely together. Love the shape of your coat too. I can't believe how cold your temperatures still are, though Thistle looks un-phased at the thought of a walk outside!

Absolutely adorable, as in I literally adore this outfit on you. I don't think I saw it the first time round, so I'm glad you did post again! Great use of the dress underneath, that's a strategy I keep meaning to use more often.
Oh, and I have serious coat envy!!

ETA: you have such a good collection of cozy winter items, I'm very curious to see what your spring and summer wardrobe looks like!

On Monday, the weather suddenly cooled down again (it was 18F/-8C during my walk), so I decided to rewear an outfit that received a lot of forum approval the first time around, based on Angie's brown & red formula. The red sweater underneath is actually a sweater dress whose hem finishes only a couple of inches higher than the brown dress, and it's a thick lambswool/cashmere blend, so I knew it'd keep me cosy. I don't have brown wool tights, so I layered wool knee socks over regular tights & opted for my wool-lined knee boots to keep everything but my knees toasty. They've learned to deal with it. And I pulled out one of my heaviest winter coats again, accessorising it with a faux fur scarflet and a thick brown hat to echo the boots.

Since it's no longer almost Christmas, I chose a different brooch this time around. I thought this extra shiny bee could hold its own against such a big swath of dark brown, and looking at the pictures, I think I was right! I also wore my gold rings to match, but those never show up in full outfit posts. :)

The brown dress has a higher waistline than my own natural waist (story of my life! despite being only 5'3" I'm long waisted & long torso'ed, so dresses almost never hit my real waist), which used to bother me, as I have a fairly broad rib cage, so I thought it unnecessarily widened me & I used to only wear this dress with a wide belt so I could adjust the waist lower. But it's so much more comfortable belt-free, and looking at these photos, I don't think the higher waist is too bad. What do you think?

(And don't worry: the outer dress fabric didn't shrink, it's just folded back on itself, hence why the lining is peeking out. I've finally acquired an ironing board, so I'll be sure to overcome my RATE tendencies and iron it into submission before the next wearing! hehe)

I almost didn't take photos or post this, as it's pretty much a repeat. But after all, isn't that what everyday dressing should be like? And I enjoy seeing other forum members in their repeats. Feel free to skip commenting though, if you commented on it last time!
