A straight or pencil skirt with cropped jackets works fairly well for me because of the straight downward line of the skirt from the waist--but when I wear pants, I get curves in and out along the legline that create a type of line I don't like. I am long-waisted, so I get the jacket kind of flying up there alone too high above my natural waist. You could treat it like a sweater. Something about plaid and ruffles that take me back to my childhood (there is some outfit my mother put me in that clearly brings back good memories. </p> <p>I think the jacket works so well because of the tulip detail on the hem in front. Also the diagonal line across your torso is so flattering (note to self). I like that the neck ruffle is rather subtle -- a nice detail but not over the top and screaming for attention. The color is fabulous and balanced very nicely with the black pencil skirt. </p> <p>That clutch is WONDERFUL. This jacket because of the shape and how it does up has to be worn closed so this may be a factor. The quality is fantastic.</p> <p>I've popped it on top of my black ponte knit sheath dress, added black micro fishnets and my cobalt blue suede booties. For a handbag, I'm using my grey faux snakeskin clutch. I think this jacket could head into "fuddy duddy" territory if not careful so I'm using modern elements like coloured booties and a clutch to keep the overall outfit modern.</p> <p>Jewelry is my Haida wedding band and a silver/garnet vintage ring.</p> <p>What do you think? Was this a good "buy"? How are the proportions?
