In the second outfit, the chevron top and the chambray top both hit around the same spot, giving the impression of a horizontal line right where your legs start, cutting off your leg-line again. IMHO, the chevron top would look much better paired with a longer outer layer OR a cropped layer. The chambray shirt could be worn by itself tucked in, or maybe tied, or maybe layered under a pullover, although in the photos it seems pretty boxy!
