Like Shiny, I love that you posted what you see as an 'experiment gone wrong', Sona! And even though it is heartening, I hope, that so many of us love it (I do too, the first #1), I can completely empathize with 'I look great... to other people, not to me!" I['ve been there too. I like the suggestions to tweak footwear and topper though --- worth trying, especially as that colour is so utterly awesome on you.

PS: Like Denise, though that was a bib necklace too! Very cool kurti. And ADORE your bangles!

I absolutely love the way your "frumpy" outfit looks in picture #2 with the pendant. I also like it with the cardi. Yes a jacket would make it more crisp but the cardi matches so well and the colors are great on you. This outfit has that easy, confident and chic vibe going on. I think of waist surrendering looks and longer skirts as confident, not frumpy. If worn right and with style (which you have abundantly), they say to me, I don't need to follow conventions about what looks good on women, I know I'm fantastic.

I like your second outfit too, I thought the bib part was actually an elaborate collar statement necklace! The pants and loafers are the perfect length, great slouch going on without getting lost in the slouch.

You look beautiful as always. Sometimes we just don't feel great in something. Others may even compliment the outfit but it is off to us.
I love your jewelry collection. It makes me smile every time.

I adore that you posted an outfit you did not feel fab in. I was wanting to start a whole thread on that topic. Regardless of what any of us may say to the contrary, I get it. I do, I posted my own "unfab" this weekend.

Some outfits we just do not feel fab in, no matter what the photographic evidence says to the contrary. Then it's a revelation to figure out why that is. The answer can be:

1) We really can't see our own selves, our mirror is distorted.

2) We see ourselves, objectively, just fine: it's just not true to our own style, no matter how on trend, how perfectly interpreted, proportions just right. It's not "us." It may look great to the outside observer, but to the inside observer (our very own selves, to whom we must be true) it doesn't.

3) Hormonal fluctuations, which are a combo of 1 and 2. I leave this on the list, because it is very very real! Science shows we all feel we look better when we're ovulating, and we look better to those looking at us too. It's all very subtle, these ovulation changes. We can weigh the exact same. Only 24 hours may have passed. But on one day, we feel absolutely fabulous, and everyone who sees us thinks we look fabulous. And yet 24 hours earlier, we feel frumpy no matter what we wear.

It's hard to sort out which is which. All I can say is, your smile in outfit 2 makes me love outfit 2 more than outfit 1. You are all lit up, clearly feeling comfortable and fab, and my eye went to that first and foremost, and immediately made me vote outfit 2. Then I read comments, and wasn't so sure. And I keep looking at the photos. But ultimately I come back to your comments -- you felt frumpy in outfit 1, frumpy enough you went shopping, tried on a belt, etc... so yeah. I vote outfit 2.

And you are holding a baby in the last photo so I am so not ruling out the ovulation factor here. :-)

I love to analyze fashion from the objective, but in the end, a lot of it really turns out to be subjective, doesn't it? How we feel inside, more than how we look on the outside.

Sona - I think you look fab in both outfits. Trust me - there is no frump factor! I just get a kick out of you taking your WIW pics and the staff behind not even paying attention - lol! Sweet baby - I work in obs & gene and that's the best part of the job - all those beautiful babies!

HI Sona, I can see great potential in outfit #1 and could imagine it with a belt over the cardigan and heels for extra pizazz!
The blouse is very beautiful with the neckline detail, and the new shoes are a Fab colour and shape.

Sona, you are so pretty! (That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the closeup of your face in #8) Also love that you referred to your jewelry as being from the "Sona collection"

I think #2 works out of your experiments with the first outfit. I agree that the cardigan adds frump - it's just one too many long loose layers.

Outfit one has fab colors, but maybe he cardi and the tank are not sleek enough for the skirt. Maybe try a different topper.

Outfit two is really pretty, especially with the baby!

Sona I agree with Angie and Suz. You look super fabulous in the first outfit. The colors! I really love it on you - but not with the yellow belt. I also love your red loafers btw. But the shot of you and baby takes the cake/baby biscuit.

Sona, you don't LOOK frumpy. In fact, you look chic and sophisticated. But I think I know what it is. The combo of the skirt, flats, and the cardigan possibly isn't expressing the style direction in which you want to go. If you tried this with booties, I think you might feel differently. Might be wrong. I actually LOVE the outfit on you.

I also love the second one.

frumpy: for some reason this made me look like a old woman with infantile insted of advanced (1-3) style!
loft striped cardi
target shell
river island midi skirt
bandolino flats
pictured with 3 different items at shops to see if I could make it more stylish: infinity scarf, long pendant( my own) and no cardi, and flower belt. all flop shows.

worn to work today: happy!!

indian kurti top with bib like embroidery, black pants from a local boutique, loft black cardi, new red/brown wedges. Jewelry from the "Sona' collection!

bonus shot: one of my students just had a aby and she brought him around. The most precious feeling in the world!
