Hey, Ket, don't sweat the sewing too much! Things I like to remember: 1) whatever can be sewn can be un-sewn, and 2) it's just fabric! If I have a fabric I really cherish, I always test out a pattern on a different fabric (with similar properties) first.

I too think the jeans do not need to taper any more. I usually am a fan of a bit of taper but these work. The boots are totally fab. You do look very pretty, fab make up too.

Ket, this is very generous of you to propose to help! Thank you. I already took some pics with what I have at hand, before you changed your mind:) will organise it in a separate post hopefully today. (Also need to change my occupation description from Housewife, to Wroking for two family businesses, because this what takes all my supposedly "free" from household and childcare duties time, which is none of cause but well

Jenni,I think it could be interesting to get draped even if you don't plan on buying new clothes right now or throuing aways old ones. If you decide to chare the results I would be very curious to see how it relates to what you laready like and wear.

Jenni I would consider it! I don’t think it’s ever too late. A dear online acquaintance of mine is a professional color analyst. I believe she became one in her 50s or 60s. Learning our colors can help us age even more gracefully, imo. Our skin and hair lose color and contrast as we age—to some degree. So I think knowing what colors suit us is helpful.

There is always the risk, if you will, of the draping result being something you don’t like. It does happen. You can gently try the season out for a while. Or you can shelve it or even skip it entirely and stay with the colors you already wear and enjoy. You can even try out neighboring seasons on your own if what you get feels close but not quite right. You can also get redraped by another analyst.

So there are a lot of possibilities if you don’t like the result you get.

And there is always the possibility you could love the draping result.

Let us know if you get draped! Seasonal color has been a huge tremendous help to me. Makeup finally feels good and normal again. (Much as I love fuchsia lipstick, it didn’t love me!) And my clothes feel easier. I still am conscious of cut and style. But knowing if a color is good on me is helpful too. For instance, I know black makes me a bit ruddy. So now I seek out deep neutrals as alternatives when I can. I also have a more cohesive wardrobe. I don’t have this massive mishmash of colors that only work with 1-2 items in my entire closet — which used to be the case. Either that or my closet was just all grey and black and burgundy, which was kind of sad.

I have been thinking fairly seriously about getting professionally draped, since I am spending so little money on clothing lately with trying to follow the “Rule of Five”. I know of the woman that does it locally, have heard of her for years, she was also a local model. It does feel perhaps a bit silly to do it at this late age of nearly 64 but it would be interesting to see if it has changed from my self-diagnosis in my 20s of “Spring” from the famous Carole Jackson “Color Me Beautiful” book which I think came out 1982 and I found it 1984. She uses that same system and is the franchise holder for it in NZ. Might be fun, but I hope I won’t turn out to be a different “season” that I don’t like?! I wouldn’t ditch my current clothes if I were, but it might influence what I might buy next?

Val I can’t remember now which palettes I shared previously. Or did I maybe share “before” collages of myself in winter? I didn’t own any paper palettes for winter, just dark autumn. I’m sorry I’m not remembering well!

That’s a shame that the options near you don’t inspire confidence in their services or expertise. But I usnetasnd why you don’t feel certain about either option. I wouldn’t feel confident in your shoes either.

I feel winter is lovely for you, from what I’ve seen! I think it’s an easy season too, just because black is so plentiful. Even white is quite plentiful. And then so many beautiful colors like cobalt, violet, fuchsia and such—it’s just lovely!

There are ways to differentiate between the 3 winter subseasons. If you ever want to discuss, I would be happy to make some suggestions for each season. (I’m not a professional analyst but have spent several years in color groups observing.) Makeup can be a big indicator. Self draping can work too. And then there are professional analysts who share various seasonal breakdowns and it is very helpful for seeing what each sub season looks like compared to its neighboring subseason.

I thought you did it yourself, you are so confident with those colors they must really speak to you. But then I remembered seeing the paper palettes in one of your posts. Are they from that not successful experience with professional ?
I looked locally for a specialist, there are not many and I am not sure if they are any good (one is pared up with a designer outlet, so why not, the other is is also doing tarot reading, energy practices etc. Nothing wrong with tarot, but seems like a strange career combination). And I don’t think online is a good idea. I know I am some sort of a winter, I guess we would establish just this, and I need more details which I feel can only be perceived in person. Maybe I am wrong and it could work but $$$… I am not taking the risk
So will try myself

Oh wow, thank you Val!! That is just lovely of you to say <3 I actually self draped my season. It was rather arduous, if I'm honest, but glad I found my season. There wasn't an analyst anywhere near me, and at the time I didn't have any extra money for professional draping. I finally discovered I am a Dark Autumn. I attached a couple pics showing the full palette colors-- just in case you're curious.

Several years ago I did have my colors done professionally, albeit virtually. The results weren't very good, though. I'm not sure I trust virtual analysis to be accurate. I was placed in winter and Dark Winter, respectively. I wore those colors for 10 years. When I had my son, I finally hit a wall. I no longer had the energy to spend 1-2 hours getting outfits and makeup together. This much time was spent to make it all work versus by choice; I could never just wear the lipstick and walk out the door without looking like a clown. I also felt physically drained wearing the colors; they took a lot of energy to support--almost like a costume for a part versus being myself. Dark Autumn felt like coming home once I got into it. And many of the colors were colors I naturally was drawn to, or knew to be good on me despite being a "winter."

Probably more than you ever wanted to know lol! :D

Angie, I'm glad I made you laugh haha! Thank you for your kind words -- you made me glow!!! I really love these jeans. I'm tempted to buy another pair or two... I wore this outfit to a memorial service (jeans were pushing the casual aspect, but was limited that day for bottom choices). I remember wondering if the blouse untucked would look strange with the waist tie of the sweater. However, seeing photos now, I think the blouse would have been better untucked. For solo wear, I typically half-tuck the blouse. Need to try belting it! I need belts. I'm really good at buying wants, but not so good about buying basics like belts and undies. Anyway.

Lisa, thank you!! I love cooler colors, but I also love my earth tones. And this coat was win-win with earth tones and the cut/style. Good point on duplicates! I typically haven't purchased duplicates in the past. But it's something I've started doing. Perhaps it's a sign of wisdom as I age?? I find an item I love then I'm sad when I can't find a duplicate to replace it when it wears out.

Suz, oh thank you! I really felt I should be saving up a bit. But... I've wanted to shop lately! So I've been shopping. :} I do need to put some focus on actual needs, such as new camisoles, new undies, and expanding my paltry belt selection. I've been using the same single belt for 3-4 years now and it's time to add a few new ones.

Jaime, I will hopefully retry this outfit again soon and try it with more blouse showing. I'll try to snag photos of it when I do! Target tends to blow me away with shoes. When they're good, they're very good. The quality isn't superb, nor are they wide width. However, the more expensive leather brands either haven't had great styles to choose from OR were outside the budget. So I'm okay with Target right now. As for low buys/no buys, I know they are all the rage this time of year, but really I feel we all have enough to deal with without denying ourselves some reasonable pleasure whatever that might be. So much wisdom in this. Thank you <3 I feel like I have more than enough clothes but honestly, I enjoy shopping. I find some of my most beloved items on sales, too. I feel better after you said that!

kkards, well, I haven't sewn yet! I've attempted to off and on over the last 10 years. Sewing intimidates me and I procrastinate. Then another year rolls around and I deem it the year I will begin sewing. I'm at the point I really need to ether try it or give up on it. I do think once I get going I might really enjoy it. So we'll see. I do want to make it happen the year--I certainly have enough patterns and fabric stashed to make a start at it, anyway. So thank you for the boost of confidence!

I love the color of that sweater on you - so pretty! - but like Angie want to see more of the blouse. The boots look great - agree that Target quality might not hold up but the style is impressive.

Those jeans are fantastic on you! Love them. And I love the warm cinnamon/ pumpkin tone of the sweater on you as well. Fun boots, too! They look super. The coat is also lovely.

Sometimes retail therapy is just the thing and it sounds like you need some fun after that holiday!

Hopefully things have settled down now! Glad you survived a hectic holiday season. You wear earth tones very well and I like the jeans length with this boot. With all the cropped jean styles available the past few years, I've gotten used to seeing more boot with a jean (vs less). You were wise to duplicate the coat, it's gorgeous on you and I always find when I have a well loved item I'm happy to have a backup in reserve ready when I need it.

Glad you and your tribe have recovered from the hecticness! Lovely to see you post.

"I planned to do a low-buy year but find myself on a buying spree lately. I think it's some kind of dopamine rush??"

Thanks for making me laugh, Ket - sounds like you needed this too!

You always look very pretty! And those earthy palettes are gorgeous on you!

KILLER jeans. Glad they don't taper more, personally. Excellent fit! Fab wash. They look dead right and modern this way :)

Boots and coat are super cute too!

Have you tried wearing the blouse out so that you can see more of it under the sweater? Also, if you don't like its shape, try cinching it in with a belt, or partially tucking the front.

BIG PS I really prefer these jeans worn with flats. They're fine with the booties. But being ankle length, I think they're much better with exposed ankles. Also, I wish the lower leg tapered just a pinch. I don't need these to be gut-sucking skinny jeans, but I have always struggled a bit with non-tapered jeans, especially if there is no bare ankle shown. However, bare ankles and lightweight flats aren't warm or practical enough for mountain winters. So I continue to wear the jeans with booties and sneakers.

Long time no post, I know. Life has been really full. We had to travel out-of-state in December unexpectedly for husband's grandmother's funeral. (She was 93 and ready to be leave this life.) Contracted a dinger of a stomach bug one day before coming home but somehow made it home without Depends. Arrived home with exactly one week to unpack, clean, and decorate before my brother arrived from out-of-state to celebrate Christmas with us. After he left, hubs, kiddo, and I all stayed in our pajamas and did nothing for the entire following week. We took a couple of walks, but that was the extent of it. I think we all felt wiped out.

I planned to do a low-buy year but find myself on a buying spree lately. I think it's some kind of dopamine rush?? And some of it is still finding my path after the last 4 years with health and house issues. And I just love fashion, anyway. Will share some new things hopefully in the coming weeks and months.

Sweater: City Chic, 2023.
Blouse: Torrid, 2023.
Boots: Target, new.

Coat: Girl With Curves, new.
Jeans: Eloquii Leigh, 2024.
Makeup is: Revlon Rum Raisin lipstick, Nars Taos blush, Elea Blake custom bronzer, and Colourpop Wild Child eyeshadow palette.

I wore the sweater's shoulder unbuttoned, to show a bit more of the blouse. The blouse reminds me of Jessica McClintlock's Gunnysax blouses; it has this slight Victorian feel to it with all of the ruffles, eyelets and pin tucks. I prefer it worn with a topper. I've finally realized that while I like it, it just doesn't have much structure on its own to suit me.

Feel free to give me any feedback, including critiques. :)

Boots. I needed brown boots for the funeral. Bought two styles in brown at Target. Love them both. They wont' last like real leather but they only get worn 1-2x a week, so should last with care. They're both faux suede. I find faux suede tends to wear decent to well. I'll share an outfit with the other pair of boots soon.

Coat. The coat was purchased on clearance from QVC plus 50% off sale. The label is Girl With Curves, from Tanesha Awasthi, influential curvy style blogger. She closed her label a year or two ago. Sad news! I didn't even realize she had a label until I stumbled across it in December! I bought two of the same coat because the price was so amazing. Fabric, cut, quality, and color are the stuff of dreams! I may have to hunt down other items from GWC on eBay, etc. I don't know if the fabric is a true scuba fabric?? It's super nice but not quite what I remember scuba fabric being. It has the potential to snag easily, so I save the coat for church and events. I've always admired this style of coat. Now that I know it also suits me, I'll likely buy or sew more of the same in the future.

Jeans. I happen to own two pairs of Eloquii Leigh jeans. Was thrilled to see them on Angie's recent trends blog post! They're very well made and well cut. I got them on sale, but even then they were $70 each. It felt like a huge amount of money for jeans but they've been worth it! I rotate them and only wear them 1-2x a week, to help them wear well. They contain some spandex; I find jeans containing spandex don't wear as long. Also, I have inner thigh rub. Jeans last only 4-5 months with constant daily wear, as the inner thighs usually blow out. So I am being careful with rotations.

I've missed you all! Hoping to post more regularly again. :)
