<p>I love the different grays together! It's subtle yet interesting. Also don't think there's anything wrong with the shirt peeking out from the jacket. I actually like how it adds a little lightness.</p>
<p>Glad the knitting group was fun!

<p>AG, I need to start combining greys more! I've always been a bit hesitant of a monochrome look on myself, but grey comes in so many shades I think I could manage it.</p>
<p>Thank you Shevia!</p>
<p>Thnx Firecracker. I'll definitely be wearing the jacket over other tops. I've no idea if it can layer under a coat; that was never an issue in Texas. lol We'll find out fairly soon though! I must admit my strong shoulders are getting twitchy at the idea of a jacket AND coat.

<p>This outfit is awesome on you, E. I love it! The details are so gorgeous on that blouse and on the jacket, and the two pieces work beautifully over your skinnies. Yes, this combo works well, and yes, you should try other tops with the jacket, too! Can you layer it under a coat, too?

<p>Thnx Marianna!<div><br /></div><div>Joy, I was the youngest there, and I had a great time. Your mother’s wardrobe sounds just beautiful; I wonder what happened to it as well. Did her style change dramatically after her marriage?</div><div><br /></div><div>Aww, thanks Angie! That’s reassuring as I’m almost done with another one (in burgundy) in a similar style. hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>Suz, I’m actually dressing as Thistle for Halloween; I figured w all my grey clothes it’d be a cheap costume. hehe Now, I just read the thread where you talk about your own legs being short, but we have the same body type! So if my legs look long, then yours must as well. I did have a good time, although I definitely did not blend in; it was not a skinnies-wearing crowd. They were very welcoming though.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Tanya!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Mala. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Missey: what a kind thing to say! :D</div><div><br /></div><div>Beth Ann, I did enjoy them, thank goodness. I’m sure I’ll go back; it’s nice to get out of the apartment &amp; chat with people offline sometimes. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Sara!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Gigi. I’m an outerwear addict, and have begun knitting and prefer wool, which was not at all justifiable in Texas, so I’m relieved it’s much easier to justify now. hehe Thanks for the hemline reassurances too.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Lucy!</div><div><br /></div><div>Oh Diana, &nbsp;I love both storm clouds and stormy seas, so I thrilled to your comment. Thank you. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Tulle: you’re so kind!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you CocoLion; I should be able to wear them more in this climate too. Neither are vintage; the top is from Ann Taylor (not sure which season) and the jacket is an Anthropologie brand (via Ebay so once again unsure about how old it is). Most of my actual vintage stuff is skirts, I think. And a couple of sweaters.</div><div><br /></div><div>Jeanie, that’s definitely ok, and thank you!</div><div><br /></div><div>Neel, I assure you the leg thing is an optical illusion. I’m 5’ 3” and all torso. But thank you!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Kiwigal; I did.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Astrid!&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Alasse. I basted the sleeves/cuff first &amp; wore them around the apartment a bit to make sure it was the right amount. The sleeves are still fuller around the cuffs, just not overwhelmingly full now. Trying to pay more attention to details like that thanks to YLF!</div>

Your clothing reminds me so much of my mother's pre-marriage wardrobe packed away in a trunk. Lovely romantic silks and embroidered wool suits. I wonder whatever happened to those things. These would have been from the early 40's.

<p>I wore my skinny jeans for the first time in ages: I was going to a knitting group for the first time and wanted to look a bit more mainstream. Of course, I had to add some more romantic touches to feel like me! I knew I wanted to wear this velvet jacket: one of my mending jobs was slimming the lower sleeves/cuffs, and I was excited to wear it.&nbsp; Then all that I needed to do was decide on a top. I wanted one that would work on its own, as I knew I'd probably end up taking my jacket off inside, and that had a similarly romantic/frilly vibe,&nbsp;so I opted for this silk blue blouse (I swear, the weirdness around my chest&nbsp;in these pics&nbsp;is from the overhead lighting: I've never noticed it in the mirror). It has the prettiest little details (pintucks, faggoting,&nbsp;buttons down the back, silly floppy bow) and is in one of my favourite colours;&nbsp;I felt so lucky when I came across it while thrifting.&nbsp; It was pretty chilly that day, so in order to make sure I'd stay warm I added my wool lined boots, and wool hat/mitts/scarf. My only wool scarf is grey, so it looked very monochromatic, but at least I wasn't freezing while I waited for the bus! Luckily although the jacket is a cotton velvet, it's lined in silk, which adds to the insulation factor.</p>
<p>I was in a hurry when I took these photos, so I didn't realise the top had ridden up when I put the jacket on: I promise I didn't have grey cami peeking out as I went about life. The blue top is longer than the grey jacket though; I got this jacket to wear with skirts, which is why it's so short. Does it look ok like this or should I try different shirt lengths with it? If I wear it with any of my skinnies my top is probably going to peek out, as I am so long waisted that even tucking wouldn't completely solve it. However, I'd be able to wear it with my full wool trousers without a competing shirt length, since I tuck into those at my natural waist, and of course with skirts &amp; dresses.</p>
<p><div>As I mentioned yesterday, several factors combined to make the photos pretty bad: sorry about that! Hopefully you can at least get an idea. :)</div>
