I am intrigued with the idea of cutting down the heel myself, considering I own those same booties. I don't mind the height for the most part (they did get me through a day of Shoptoberfest), but they'd be even better with a little less height. Hmmm.

Thanks everyone! I don't have any emotional trauma re the boots. It was more that feeling of not being capable that I disliked.

I am going to look into cutting the heels down as IK suggested... Wonder how much that will cost?

If what happened made you loose your taste for the boots, then by all means, rid yourself of them. However, I know very well how emotionally empowering a pair of "show off" shoes can be. Would that we could have it all.

I'm all for the utilitarian shoes parked in an underused file drawer or under the desk. When I worked one floor under the top floor of University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning I kept retired running shoes to hedge the prospect of 35 flights of stairs in an emergency. I really don't think you should get rid of a lovely boot you like in so many other ways...

Great boots and if they are comfortable, there is a place for less practical heels also green, wow, great score. I don't usually wear high heels but if you want similar feel but more practical you might want to check out http://www.eileenfisher.com/Ei.....cale=en_US The plaform brings the height down to 2 inch heel but incredibly comfortable and they look amazing with everything.

I have to agree with Dianthus. It's so easy to get caught in the emotion of the moment. I'm not saying it's not important to be able to run in an emergency, just put the experience into perspective. A good pair of running shoes under your desk may well be sufficient given the likelihood you'll ever really have to use them, and you can still enjoy the gorgeous booties. And I say with while every fiber of my being wants to completely protect you from any bad thing ever happening.

Have you made a decision? The boots are gorgeous and it would be a shame to give them up. If you were out at a formal event in a dress, you probably wouldn't be all that comfortable running for your life either so perhaps you need a little time to put the event into perspective.

To me it's a matter of degree. I couldn't RUN, for any distance, in some of my slip- on shoes because they'd fall off. I wouldn't want to walk home in some of my dressy/wedding/ event shoes. But I have given up shoes when I think they make me teeter or totter and walk slowly because if the pitch of the shoe.

Sell. I'm not compromising any more especially when I have the proof something did not perform well. You can't wear 'em and forget 'em, IYKWIM. Once the awareness that something is not 100% right sets in, I am not reaching for it, as simple as that. So, off to something better. And do not cry - the right thing IS out there.

I think that since you love them, you should keep them. The majority of your boots are comfy and walkable all day, so why not indulge yourself? If they are never worn for practical reasons, that's another story. Keep a spare pair at your desk just in case if you feel like it. I liked that solution best.

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong in the way this outfit looks, but maybe it doesn't "feel" like you?

FWIW, maybe you need at least one hard edge item in each outfit? Like swap the waterfall cardi for a more structured jacket/blazer. Or faux tuck the top to showcase an edgy belt? How does that sound?

Sometimes we need fun show shoes. However, if you think these will make you feel guilty sitting in your closet, then it's time to move on.

Well, I got rid of a pair of shoes after an eerily similar situation a few years ago. In an emergency, I'm not willing to start hunting for an alternate pair of shoes I've stashed somewhere in a back drawer, nor am I willing to run barefoot over shattered glass or other questionable materials if I have any choice in the matter. But, then, I've always had a poisoned eye for clothing that renders women helpless. I like to think I'd be capable of looking after myself, and maybe others, in an emergency instead of being hobbled by my clothing.

Love the whole outfit! I'd say to keep a pair of flats at work just in case, but not to give these up. Those are gorgeous boots, and it just seems like it would be a shame to let rare worst-case scenarios make you give up things that make you happy and are just fine for everyday life.

The one time we had an earthquake, I was kind of proud of myself for quickly getting down 7 flights of stairs, then walking maybe a mile toward home before I saw an empty cab, in not-awful-but-not-the-comfiest-even-on-a-good-day wedge sandals. So I might have taken the opposite lesson as you there, and gotten a little overconfident that I can deal with an emergency in whatever shoes I'm wearing.

I would definitely keep some flats and in winter WARM boots at your desk. You live in earthquake country. What if you have to evacuate in the winter? Something you could walk home in if your life depended on it. I don't dress as if the world will implode at any minute, but I do keep some gear in the car all the time. Utah is woefully ill-prepared for its seismic potential.

I agree with LBD -- I have those boots in sparkly gunmetal, and no, I wouldn't run in them, but that is a flukey occurrence and I would not get rid of those fab booties for such an unusual occasion.

You look great, and I can't imagine there was any stumpification, even without the boots!

Lisap, what size are you? :) If I do sell them, I'm going to offer them up here - they are nearly new and GORGEOUS. But I will have to cry me a river first.

Uh - what size are you? I'll send you a cheque and my return address.

In all seriousness, I love this forest green combo you have going on - it's clearly a good colour for you - and you have the perfect shade of it in the cardigan. Sorry about the boots at work, but don't get rid of them because of that - unless you want to send them to me.

I like your idea of keeping an old pair of emergency shoes at work. However, if the boots turn out not to be comfortable, they should go to make room for something better.
