In answer to your question, I think the neutrals outfit is really awesome. I think it's because of the necklace. Without the necklace I think it would have looked a little drab. And I don't think the necklace is "too much" at all. I think it is a nice elegant contrast to the more casual look of the garments, and the neutral coloring of the garments let them stay in the background while the necklace is showcased.
