I often travel with black and colorful print toppers or scarves to break it up Navy can be hard to blend. &nbsp;I have divided dark and light neutrals into diffract time os the heat. &nbsp;I just entered a black phase but it will be back to navy for spring and summer. &nbsp;dark colors work well I. Big cities but not tropical areas. I went to see Six The Musical (fab show!) with a friend yesterday. I was racing because I had just gotten back from a yoga retreat and had to get changed and jump in the car to head downtown (not complaining - I was spoiled rotten this weekend! But just to give a sense of turnaround time on the outfit!)</p> <p>Note the angle makes the skirt look quite maxi-length, but it's more the lower end of mid-calf.</p> <p>My planned outfit didn't work because the top needed ironing and I didn't have time to do it properly. So I stuck with the slip skirt, which was planned, and threw on my trusty Uniqlo button up. Mindful of the column of black, I tried to use a few Angie strategies for taming it a little:</p> <p>- mix of textures - the satin and the matte fabric, leather accents in purse and shoes<br />- break up the column - with warm cognac<br />- show some skin - kept the first few buttons of the shirt undone to show a bit of skin as well as my necklaces<br />- maximal my way with jewellery - earrings, necklaces, bracelets. I was feeling like a little jangle!</p> <p>Overall, it's not a bad outfit. It worked for the occasion and was very comfy and practical for a commute of the train and plenty of walking downtown to our lunch spot and the theatre. A few critiques for my own learning:</p> <p>- I would like a new cognac crossbody - this one is old, cheap and falling apart! But it's a handy thing to have to make a compliment with these shoes<br />- The shoes are not bad. They are not the most current but I don't think dated either. And they are super-comfy.<br />- The column of black IS heavy on me. I wear black ok but it's not my best. I would have LOVED this is navy. On reflection a challenge for me is that a couple of my go-to Canadian stores rarely carry navy! It's a trade-off between convenience and flattery that I am willing to make. But the difference in dark neutrals isn't lost on me, and since I am happy to mix navy and black most of the time, keeping an eye out for navy pieces should come back on my radar.<br />- I probably would have preferred my original outfit - same skirt, white tee - better due to the higher contrast. That said, the cognac and black worked well to my eye - I liked it. If I can't find a taupe bootie this season, I would consider a light cognac once it didn't skew too warm. Silver and black is lovely - but can read a little austere without other elements softening it.<br />- gold jewellery might have worked a little better to soften the black too.</p> <p>Ok thanks for letting me talk that through! Open to comments and constructive critique! Or any direction you'd like to take it in!;</p> <p>PS - No outfit could beat the fab outfits of the SIX! This is the Canadian cast! </p>
