I think the peekaboo shoulder thing is really cool! Must remember that for later.

The whole outfit is fun. Yes, maybe not the most flattering thing in the world but sometimes you just want to have fun.

Too funny about Man Repeller. I really love this blue on you. Sandals and just the dress, and you'll retreat from Man Repeller status. I do think the long sleeves are a little odd with knees showing, but love the peekaboo shoulder. That's too cool.

if not for the under skirt, i rather like this outfit....if you decide to try it again you way want to try a bike short style short underneath, or jockey makes something called slip shorts, that will help manage the static cling (and allow you to feel comfortable moving around). but i can also see this layered over long white leggings....a different vibe maybe, but it would still retain much of the orginal feel.

No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater!
Maybe if you just refine the idea? Pull the essential qualities of the style and adjust them so the look is more flattering overall? I can't pretend I don't see your husband's side, or why he thinks you're not doing yourself justice, although I think he could improve his delivery..
Also those shades of blue are beautiful on you.

I had to laugh and applaud you for your title, and for your honesty at posting your DHs comments.

Not sure this my cup of tea either, but you have done a great job at using the inspiration to create an outfit. I think I would like to see a bit more of the skirt underneath, to look a bit more intentional.

Kudos to you for wearing and posting one of the most thought-provoking outfits I've seen on YLF in a while. My first instinct was that one kind of unconventional layer is enough (either pick the blouse plus shift, or the shift plus skirt). But the outfit would be safer looking and not as discussion-worthy.

I really like the top part, with the bare shoulders--fun, creative interpretation of your inspiration picture. You've inspired me to take a look at trying that with an off-shoulder top I never wear! I'm wondering whether I might like a little more pencil skirt showing (like, just covering the knee, so you still have some leg showing--I like your reasoning there) or no pencil skirt. I think how you felt in the outfit is your best guide. Photos often don't do justice to a look, and there are bound to be a lot of varying opinions on anything beyond the most expected looks!

I felt really great in it. And able to forget about it and get on with what needed doing, rather than constantly fiddling and adjusting (even though the sleeves slipped around a bit). I look rather unimpressed in the photo because it was taken just after a rare long Sunday nap...

The underskirt IRL showed about 1.5 inch all around, with white dots in the upper layer; the paisley pattern didn't show. The longer skirts I tried with it looked more obviously "apron" and more like the inspiration in length, but I felt more fiddly in them, and thought showing some leg to offset the waistlessness maintained some semblance of figure flattery.

I had fun with it, but I think the next few Sundays I'll stick to more traditional looks so as not to frighten the children and horses...

Well, the range of comments from those who actually saw the outfit ought to be a sign that this outfit isn't everyone's cup of tea. Not conventionally flattering, maybe not even in the JFE category, but an A+ in the Having-Fun-With-Fashion category.

I love the top of your outfit with the blouse layered under the dress. It's unusual and interesting and I don't find it unflattering. I'm not so sure about the bottom though and that's mainly due to the angle of the photograph-I just can't see the pencil skirt that well.

I don't see what is so unflattering about it. I do think the shirt underneath could be awkward and unlikely to stay in place (or at least it would be on me!). But the dress is a great color and I like the bell sleeves with it. Agree with Tanya's question - how did you like it?

This ended up being a controversial outfit... I wanted to remix something I already had for Easter this year, since my spring capsule gets so little wear already and the last few years my "finery" was hidden under a choir robe anyway... I was inspired by this Marni dress I found on Pinterest, to try layering a blue peasant blouse (sewn for me by my daughter, and a bit too droopy to work for me on its own) with a lively printed shift dress by Joe Fresh. The dress was summer weight and a bit on the short side, but my biggest hurdle was the static cling to my thighs. I tried layering it over a full white skirt and a longer navy tube skirt, but (running out of time) settled on a black-with white, sort-of-paisley print Ponte pencil skirt (Cleo) that you can barely see peeping out the bottom, for a bit of pattern mixing. I cut off my feet in the photo deliberately to hid my socks... I wore it out with dressy black knee-high low-heeled boots with a narrow fitted shaft, to keep with the 60's vibe and also protect me from the latest snowfall. Also, I am continuing the "Black, white and light blue" streak I have had going since last week, linked here http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....eek-of-wiw

Feedback received so far: my fellow guitarist liked it. The pianist was about to tell me a sleeve had ripped until she got a closer look. My daughter told me I had definitely found a hippy vibe for playing with the band. And at the end of the day, my Dear Husband told me it was the most unflattering outfit he has ever seen me in and I could just drop it straight into the trash.

And what do my fellow Fabbers think?
