<p>Dandy, E! Such delicious close-ups and verbal descriptions. You know I like corduroy, velvet, Mary Janes, peplum/curved back,&nbsp;ruffles, brown,&nbsp;and tucking, so - what's not to like? No improvement possible.

<p><div>No forgiveness necessary Deborah! Thanks for the feedback. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Lucy, thank you! Who doesn't need some Oscar Wilde in their lives?</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks Lyn!</div><div><br /></div><div>Gryffin, I loved your comment so much, all of the story telling transported me. And duck tail is the perfect description for the back of the jacket; I'll have to remember that! Sadly, I couldn't find the cover you mention in a Google image search, but it sounds delicious. Impromptu was in my Netflix queue, but they removed it from streaming before I could watch it. I'll have to track it down from the library.</div><div><br /></div><div>Merci Krishnidoux. Colette is one of my favourite authors; I can't believe I forgot to mention her in my post. Whoops!</div><div><br /></div><div>Aquamarine, thank you. I really wish I had a tripod so I could change backgrounds (I stack books on top of my desk and put my camera on top for now) and have a bit more fun with the photos, but I'm glad they look good anyway.</div>

<p>Wow! Beautiful way to get inspired for an outfit. I love your post! I agree, French turn-of-the-century literature is VERY inspiring aesthetically. And you have done so well, too. Great little outfit here, perfect for this life, prefect on you. Even how the hems are rolled on the pants to reveal discreet Mary-janes akin to the ones worn in the 1920's. You have found a way to "flaner" (flah-nay)&nbsp;all day in your jacket!&nbsp;</p>
<p>The word flaneuse also reminds of&nbsp;flannel, which your outfit does not contain, but which itself evokes softness, velvety fabric: smooth.</p>
<p>And you do look very smooth in this to.</p>
<p>Félicitations!

<p>Oh E - I so adore this look.&nbsp; You are probably too young to have seen it but Anna Sui did a cover and a huge article in Vogue with velvet frock coats.&nbsp; I stil have not recovered from that!!&nbsp; I have a strong love of steampunk and you have so nailed this look.&nbsp; Referenced, relaxed but comfortable and never falling into costume-y.&nbsp; You are absolutely Viola (out of uniform I must add) running an errand for Orsino!!&nbsp; or a young Madame Sand rushing off to persue Chopin (PS, did you ever see Impromptu with Judy Davis and Hugh Grant?)&nbsp; The jacket is so spectacular on you.&nbsp; I love the longer sleeves and ducktail.&nbsp; The blouse you picked is perfect, the pants slim enough to echo britches but modern and even the roll at the ankle and shoes so totally works.&nbsp; I am simply transported back in time- it is past 2am, paris, the&nbsp;french doors on the terrace are open and a slight breeze ruffles the air&nbsp;-&nbsp; after a long night of gaming&nbsp;she's tossed&nbsp;her cravat on the bed.&nbsp; She sits and puts her boots up on the bed.&nbsp; She's not going to let her brother have all the fun and, after all, he won't miss his clothes until morning.&nbsp; But right now she wishes she could borrow his valet.&nbsp; How does a gentleman remove his boots without assistance, as a good boot jack would ruin the heels.&nbsp; She sighs, but ah, all the trouble, it was worth it!!

<p>That is one fabulously dandy jacket, E! This is my favorite outfit on you. The thing I don't like about jackets is how strict they feel, but in hindsight it wouldn't surprise me now if mine have never really fit properly.

<p>Really great outfit. I haven't been a jacket-wearer since college, really, when I was doing dandy outfits quite a bit (and as early as high school). So this is inspiring! (I still have the Victorian top hat that I bought in 1981...wore it with a steampunk costume a few years ago.) I so appreciate your updated version with the gray cords and the brown mary janes. Your coloring is similar to mine, so it's great to see you demonstrate how well it all works put together. Nicely done!

<p><div>Thank you Beth Ann! I suspect altering pieces is more complicated than sewing from scratch, but I definitely want to start building up those skills! Part of why I didn't pursue sewing earlier is that buying fabric &amp; notions &amp; patterns is more expensive than thrifting. But now tht I have so many clothes, I know that quality over quantity is the way to go. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Lisa, I'm very inspired by all of your blazer and jacket wearing! I should've taken a picture with the boots on too. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Suz, thank you so much! If we lived closer, I'd happily lend you the jacket. I love dandy looks too, and I think I should explore that a bit more with my closet. You know, I never would have tucked a shirt into trousers and then worn a jacket over it before, because I thought I looked strange with tops tucked into trousers, but seeing how beautifully you wear that silhouette inspired me to give it a go.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks Jeanie! Now if only Paris was strolling distance away. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>PMC, thanks for the reassurance! I have several brown pieces now, and as long as I stay on the cooler side, I seem to get along with them quite well. Which is particularly handy when it comes to shoes!</div><div><br /></div><div>FuzzyLogic, no worries about Sartre! We all make typos! And thanks for the compliments.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Sarah. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Janet, if I had your shoe collection I'd fine endless inspiration there too! ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks Diane. I've been reading about sewing and have discovered that velvet is a tricky fabric to sew, which is a shame since it's one of my favourites! And I really want velvet trousers. hehe I'll be sure to practice a lot before I attempt it.</div><div><br /></div><div>Viva, I mentioned in a post last week that while at first I resisted the 'girly tomboy' label, I'm now beginning to see how relevant it is to my style! So 'sophisticated tomboy' sounds like fabulous inspiration too, especially since your sister thinks it matches you so well. I look forward to seeing your outfits exploring that. And thank you so much for the extravagant compliments! I don't usually repeat outfits (I'm a habitual 'remixer,' always tweaking), but this one I'll have to.</div>

<p>E, like a few others, this is my FAVORITE outfit of yours so far. When I saw the very first photo of the closeup of the jacket's tail, I almost fainted. I can see the both the iridescence of the fabric and its hand-feel...it was an amazing find, the cut and drape are gorgeous, and it fits you beautifully. I love the interplay of genders and strive to effectively do that more in my own wardrobe (the phrase I am working with in my head more and more these days is "sophisticated tomboy," which my sister thinks has been my style my entire life, so I may be on to something organic). <br />Oh, I could write about this outfit on you all day. Although I always admire your little embelishments, I applaud your restraint with this outfit and think you made the right call, because you bring enough femininity to this outfit all on your own. This is absolutely a winner for me.

<p>This is so, so beautiful. First, your eloquent description and your interesting thought process. And then the outfit itself!! I have a huge soft spot for "dandy" looks and this makes me think of a 19th century poet as well as the flaneur of your title. Either way, it's wonderful. The brown jacket is actually beautiful on you. I love the sheen and richness of it. I can see how it would be easy to wear indoors, as well. I would wear this in a heartbeat.&nbsp;

<p>Pretty jacket.&nbsp; Swap the shoes for boots and I would steal this outfit.&nbsp; I am a big fan of blazers and lighter weight jackets indoors and sport them year round.&nbsp; I even purchase my outerwear one size up to accommodate layering blazers and jackets underneath them.&nbsp;

<p>My favorite of your outfits so far!&nbsp; I love the places you find your inspiration, and the way you keep your own distinct sense of style while thrifting most of your clothing.&nbsp; You seem to go beyond thrifting fab pieces to building a wardrobe.&nbsp; I'd encourage you to build up your sewing skills, so you can fine-tune your pieces for fit and adapt them when you'd like to.

<p><div>Adelfa, I keep my place fairly cold when the weather drops, but I usually just pile on the sweaters!&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>Thistle, thank you!</div><div><br /></div><div>Windchime, heehee: I could stick a turtle outfit on my dog I suppose. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>RachyLou, thank you! I love that line too and agree it's sartorial power. Whenever I'm feeling nervous about a situation, I reach for something that's simply cut, fits me beautifully, and is a high quality fabric.</div><div><br /></div><div>Raisin, thnx!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks Diana! I often see how many paragraphs I've written and feel bad before posting, so that's reassuring. I definitely need more jackets with tails in my life, hehe. Start dressing like Lord Peter Wimsey perhaps!</div><div><br /></div><div>Jacky, thanks so much. I love your outfits too, so thank you.</div><div><br /></div><div>MG, I thought you'd like the velvet at least! I feel like I spend my satorial life teetering on the edge of twee, trying not to tip over. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Aww: thank you Deb!</div><div><br /></div><div>Ceit, it was definitely a lucky find. As I've been wearing it, I've been noticing all of the clever seaming that lets it drape so well &amp; am very impressed.</div><div><br /></div><div>Emily, thnx! I usually end wearing my (few) heels with trousers rather than skirts, because with my full skirts they can end up feeling a bit more classic than is quite to be taste.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Joyce!</div><div><br /></div><div>Vildy, I love what Rachy said too! Thanks: I always enjoy your comments, you have such a neat perspective on things.</div><div><br /></div><div>How kind you are Carambola! I'm blushing at so many compliments but thank you. In a large part, I didn't start developing a more distinctive style until after I started thrifting, so my financial constraints somehow opened up a whole new sartorial world for me. I'm fortunate to have access to thrift stores with reasonable prices and treasures waiting to be found! :)</div>

<p>I <i>adore</i> this on you! Love the luxe texture of the jacket and the peplum/tail&nbsp; detail. I think the color looks great, too. It's so impressive how you find these lovely pieces thrifting and put them together in a way that is nontraditional, as you put it, but compelling and stylish and perfectly suited to you.
