Stay with this Amy because this is a look just made for you. The white shirt is better and maybe it might help the proportions if the cuffs were rolled a wee bit higher , so there is not such a deep white band of material challenging the cropped sleeves.
I love this look and will be trying it myself. I appreciate the sensible suggestions you've recieved from the forum. Aren't they a great bunch?

Amy you're so leggy I think you need an even longer top still. The white shirt version looks a lot better though. Getting closer!

I was going to say exactly what Angie said (honestly!)
A longer top.
I also think a slightly fitted or aline top with a shirtail hem works with a boxy crop.
It is a tricky thing to do, like in art, an inch or two in one direction makes all the difference in both design and proportion in clothing.
Love the look on you!

Okay - I'm trying a few new combos of this. But I still kinda think they don't work. Am I right? I may have to watch for longer shirts, and different cropped sweaters, because I love the idea of this formula so much :)

Thank you for the suggestions! As soon as I get a chance, I'll hop up and look for a longer shirt as an underlayer, then take a new pic

I love the blouse! And I think these pants are really flattering on you. I'm wondering if the high contrast between the blouse and black sweater is part of the issue.

A great effort.

I think the blouse is a little short for the layered effect and lower crotch point of the jeans. Try a longer under layer, Amy. You are almost there. xo

I'm not loving the proportions either, but the print on the blouse is really pretty and springy. I think both the sweater and top may need to be a touch longer. A long sleeved sweater or a longer, sleeveless top underneath this sweater might be worth a shot.

Forgot to take a side view - the floral shirt has a bit of a hi-low hem, and is longer and curved in the back.

I think you're right that traditional shirt tails would help the shape.

Love the BF jeans and oxfords. I like the cropped sweater and I think a longer shirt with a more traditional shirttail might help the proportions.

This is an attempt at the Cropped sweater over longer shirt ensemble. I'm not sure I got it, nor am I sure that this particular cropped sweater is a good choice for trying this way.

But I figured it's worth a try, and you all could set me straight :)

Black cropped sweater over a bright floral buttondown, with full-length boyfriend jeans (so that I can wear socks), and black pointy-toe oxfords (with a mid heel)

Does it work? I feel like the proportions are off....

ETA: Here's another attempt - one with a longer shirt (which is a bit too stiff to be worn this way, I suspect), and the same two shirts with a different pair of jeans - this one without the slouch). What do you think? (I'm pretty convinced that no, they don't especially work)
