Fun post! I don't have a photo, but I was wearing a cream Fair Isle sweater when I met my husband for the very first time on a cold February night in 1974. Fond memories.

Susan Bristol! I was a buyer for a specialty store in the eighties and Susan Btistol was one of our best vendors. We had the Fair Isles, but then they transitioned into embellished sweaters with skirts that coordinated. Very pretty, sort of a tyrolean type look. Clothing is so evocative! Talking about styles or brands can bring you right back to a time and place. ( I'm a little crazy; ask me about almost any event in my life and I can tell you what I was wearing! :-))

Retail girl and nebraskim, how I wish I still had one of mine (Susan Bristol's), but I actually wore them out. I remember my mom sewing leather patches on the elbows.

I had one in college that was lime green with a pink and yellow yoke. Straight out of the Official Preppy Handbook. I think it was from a long closed retailer Carroll Reed. I still have a cream, black and red one, a cardigan, purchased in 1986 at Eddie Bauer in Chicago. It's sort of Nordic and not so Scots. I love it and break it out when it's cold and it also works as a casual holiday sweater without overt holiday motifs. Both made of wool.

I wish I had pictures of mine! In high school, in the late 60's, I had an oatmeal heather fair isle, label John Meyer of Norwich, which, along with Villager, was the brand to have. It cost about $15, which was a lot when the minimum wage was $1.50 and I got $.50 an hour for babysitting. They had a renaissance in the late 70's, and I bought two on a trip to Bermuda, ( my honeymoon, actually). They were Dean's of Scotland, one was a pretty bright pink and the other was a cobalt blue. From Trimingham's. I still have those.

as i mentioned in Angie's blog post, i loved the Fair Isle sweater trend in high school/college and i love it now. The first picture is how i wore it yesterday to run errands. and yes, if it had been 10 degree's colder so that it was snowing instead of raining, i would have worn it with my Bean boots, you may not be able to go home again, but you can visit…..the other 2 pictures are from high school, notice the horrible perm in the 2nd throwback photo.
anyone else have old Fair Isle photo's they want to share?
as always, all comments and feedback welcome.
