We hiked 3 or 4 miles today and my feet are happy. I've had really good luck with this brand -- Ahnu -- in the past; both their casual around-town styles and their "real" hiking shoes are super comfortable and good if you need a narrow heel with a moderate/wide toe box. I can't attest to traction -- there's no ice here yet -- but there are tiny little sparkles in the rubber compound that are supposed to improve the grip. I live -- by choice -- in the sticks, and for the most part I enjoy dressing for my day-to-day dog walking, firewood hauling, etc. Today I'm giving these new snow boots a trial run, though it's unseasonably warm (38 F) and sunnyish. The rest is pretty standard fare: old slouchy J Crew chinos, a chambray shirt with tiny peaches on it (Alternative Apparel), and a vintage Woolrich wool shirt-jac. Love me a shirt-jac! </p>
