Agree with you about carry-on only and wearing heaviest stuff on the plane.<br /> Visited Joshua Tree about 10 years ago and really appreciated its unique plants and rock formations. We only did easily accessible short hikes in JTNP and can’t remember any specifics though have some beautiful photos! I do remember hiking to Forty Nine Palms Oasis which is outside the park near the town of Twenty Nine Palms.<br /> Because you are hiking and camping, I’m sure you will see much more of the park than we did. We used to go hiking in Joshua Tree when we lived in Southern California. It's a great place to hike. Lots of interesting rock formations, desert plants, and birds to see along the way. I think Ryan Peak was a favorite but maybe I got the name wrong. Nice views from the top. Carry-on only, so I’m layered up in my bulkiest clothes. It’s so unseasonably balmy in New England right now, I don’t even need the hat and coat today, but will for High Desert nights! It’s nice that chunky sneakers are in; I no longer feel like such a dork when I travel in my trail runners (minimalist city shoes tucked away in my pack). </p> <p>Anyone have favorite trails in Joshua Tree? It’ll be our first time there! We never went when we lived nearby because we always had our dog with us (who’s staying home with a beloved sitter this time around—50lbs so we never fly with him). </p>
