Many steps. They're very stable and my feet were completely comfortable.<br />My only complaint, which is generic to boots at this shaft height, is that the top front edge can press into my shin after a while. Often this begins to irritate me if I'm sitting for a long time. They are so great. I have many black pants and many cream tops and they pull this simple combo together in a very stylish way. I love the angled zipper and the round heel.&nbsp;</p> <p>Thank you for telling us about the double insert, Suz. I put them on and they felt too tight and I was so disappointed, but then I realized that both insoles were inside the shoe. Pulled one out and voila! Perfect fit on my wide foot. I would not have even thought to pull out the insert, and they'd be back on the truck to Zappos by now....</p> <p>This is the winter footwear jackpot, much like the Clark's fisherman sandals were my win for the summer (thanks again, Kelly!) I will wear these a ton. </p>
