The earrings are so so pretty on you, E! and no they do not look too big for your neck. I used to wear big earrings like this in my twenties too ( which was many moons ago). I stopped wearing them when I stopped tying my hair up in a bun or a braid but I always like them on others. The reason I stopped wearing my hair in a bun or a ponytail was my grey roots all around the hairline ;((
Anyways, this sweater looks perfect on you and the bag and sandals play very well with this shade of light brown. Is this colour one of your neutrals?

Another knock-it-out-of-the-park outfit from E! I love all the sweater details, the updo, the sweater + shorts combo, and the pops of burgundy. Wonderful!

I am glad that red shorts aren't on your mental list--I feel they would have upstaged the outfit. As it is, everything is soft and perfectly balanced to support the earrings which are fabulous. Everything is fabulous. Brilliantly done.

What lovely earrings! They suit you and I think the way you styled your outfit is beautiful. Your light sweater has such lovely detail and goes perfectly with your shorts. They look really comfy too :). The rich leather colours of your bag and sandals add another depth of interest which I really enjoy. You look great E!

Thank you Katie Kat!

Aubergine, my niece is awesome & very good at picking out things that are my style. You know part of why I stopped wearing dangly earrings was different hairstyles, but the other part was suddenly realising just how short my neck was & that dangly earrings don’t brush other people’s shoulders. But so far no one has told me my neck is too short to wear bigger earrings, so I might just have to get over that in the future! The sandals are Bass: I think they make this style every year (I got mine on deep discount via Amazon a couple years ago). They’re comfy enough for errand running/parties/etc. but not for a couple miles walk (at least not on me: sole isn’t flexible enough).

Thanks so much Claire! Such a nice thing to say. I wasn’t sure about this particular colour on me either (it’s so difficult to tell in dressing rooms w fluorescent lighting), so I feel very reassured.

How cool Alexandra! I really enjoy hand knitting, but I can see how machine knitting would come in hugely handy for working with very fine yarn.

Jeanie, I’m all about long sleeves in the summer, so that my arms have some protection from the sun! It works pretty well, but I have to make sure my bottom half is super-breezy to compensate. I haven’t mentioned bags before, you’re right! I own 5: a small navy blue one, this medium burgundy one, two larger ones that can fit my camera/a book/cardigan/etc (one in dressier pewter faux leather & one in casual nylon taupe that’s just big enough for my macbook), and a cloth tote with flower detailing that I use frequently in spring/summer. The first 3 all are cross body. I do switch them out depending on how much I need to carry; I also frequently just pop the essentials in my pockets, if they're big enough, and go bag-less. I have muscle & joint pain, so I have to be really careful about carrying only the minimum necessary (my iphone is the bane of my existence in that regard: too big & heavy). I don’t usually match them to my outfits though, since all but one are in my neutrals so go with pretty much everything. Bags are pretty much utilitarian to me, which is why I don't usually remember to include them in outfit posts! You can sort of see them in my closet photos: they’re up on the the shelf above the hanging clothes. I’d love to have a Moop bag, but I worry that it would turn out too heavy for daily use & I'd be stuck admiring it on the closet shelf instead. I wish I could try them out in person first to see.

Thank you AmeElizabeth! I have one long pendant necklace, so I’ll have to give it a try. :)

Love the outfit and the earrings, which go GREAT with it, I think! If you ever want to switch it up, I can see a long pendant necklace going really well with this outfit as well, instead of the earrings.

Love the details on that sweater. I am trying long sleeves in summer for the 1st time. It's kind of like a shield to the heat. I love how the matching burgundy pieces pull everything together. I don't recall you mentioning a bag collection. Do you change out your bags a lot?

Fabulous earrings! And I love how you styled the whole outfit around them. It looks so easy and comfy and summery. The lace pattern on the sweater hems is especially awesome (of course, I could be biased here because it's the same transferred lace pattern I'd used on one of my first machine knit sweaters years ago).

What fun that you were inspired (back) by MG! The earrings have a great feel to them and you should be the poster child for all things pointelle knit. That sweater has the perfect vibe for you, and it's a flattering version of one of those tricky neutral shades. The shorts and sandals finish off your look nicely, and how wonderful that you didn't overheat. Bring on those breathable fibers!

Aida, I wish high 70s described my summer. This does have a bit of Aida flavour too, doesn't it? I liked the grey shorts too, so I haven't put burgundy shorts on my metal closet wish list. Yet. hehe

Peri, it feels like ages ago (I'm 28 now & happy to be getting older). hehe It's probably been 5ish years? I love that anthropologist/smart world traveller look.

Gigi, I agree re: rayon. It's a neat fabric! When I first put the earrings in, I thought 'oh wow those are heavy,' but within 30 minutes I'd stopped noticing, and my ears were fine with wearing them all day. And I haven't worn any earrings regularly for the last 8ish months; before that I had a pixie & wore small studs daily. I think it helps that these are costume jewelry, with plenty of openwork so they are very lightweight for their size (the beads are resin vs glass).

Yay MG! Glad you're pleased. And yes, my niece has a very developed & awesome sense of style already (she's 8 now).

It's pretty important to read the first 3 in order I think, because there's a lot of subplot focus on Russell growing up/into her partnership w Holmes. However, I know libraries can take ages to process acquisitions, so if you don't mind reading mass market paperback, I'm happy to mail you up my copy so you don't have to wait as long! And no rush about returning it either (these days my arthritis means I'm slowly replacing my mass market paperbacks with trade paperbacks or ebooks). Just pm me your address. (I hate it when my library's missing early books in a series. Luckily I can suggest purchases via the website!)

OhOH! Fantabulous earrings!! I would totally wear those!!! And I love the outfit too, such a delicate pointelle sweater, and the echoing red in the bag and sandals is just right.

p.s. Your niece obviously has amazing taste!

p.p.s. I checked out The Beekeeper's Apprentice and read it over the weekend. Then saw the library has books 3, 4, 5, etc, but not #2. You should have seen the librarian's face when I told her I wanted to ILL a book and handed her the slip of paper with "A Monstrous Regiment of Women," written on it! She said other people have ILL'd the same book and when I told her it was #2 in a series, and they have the rest of the series, she said she thought she could get it approved as a buy ... so maybe eventually I'll get the book, but who knows. Should I wait to get it before reading #3? I have a feeling these are not really stand alones and that each builds to the next?

I really like the sweater! It looks wonderful on you, and the ornamental hem gives it that "E" touch. Rayon is really good in the heat, I find.

It can be fun to add things like statement earrings to outfits, because they can change the whole look! I don't have any statement-y earrings...must reconsider. Although it's been so long since I've worn heavy earrings that my ear lobes would probably be pulled down to my collarbone, hee hee. How did your ears do? It sounds like it has been a while since you have worn big earrings yourself.

Short & sweet today. As Museum Gal styled a dress inspired by me, I decided to wear one of my pairs of dangly earrings that remind me of her style! I used to wear big earrings like this a lot (in my early twenties), but then changed hairstyles & didn't touch them for ages. I ended up passing on all but two pairs, that I kept because my niece gave them to me as a birthday gift. She picked them out all by herself when she was five. I adore this pair because they have evil eye beads on them, one of my favourite cultural touchstones.

So I started with the earrings. Their boho feel made me want to wear something fluid, and the brass metal seemed like it would play well with this top. It's a super lightweight rayon knit that I was thrilled to come across a couple months ago, as I had no spring/summer jumpers/pullovers at the time. My favourite part is how each section is knit in a slightly different stitch and the hems have those fabulous points! I tried to capture this in a regular detail photo, but it looked strange, so I ended up taking a flat photo of it instead. And I obviously should've ironed the poor bow.

Ideally, I'd have paired it with a burgundy bottom to pick up the red in the earrings. But it was really hot & sunny today, so I knew I needed to wear shorts, and I don't have any red shorts (...this is how my closet keeps expanding...). I went with grey ones instead & wore burgundy sandals & bag and my garnet ring to add some hints of red.

My hair went up because of the heat & to show off the earrings: it was fairly tidy most of the day, but I took these pictures after an extended fetch/keep away play session with my puppy. ;)

I was amazed at how well this sweater handled the heat: it hit over 100 today, but I didn't feel at all stifled in it as I ran errands this afternoon, and I run hot (I mean, obviously I felt hot in a car in those kinds of temperature but not once did I feel the sweater was contributing to that).

Comments, critiques & suggestions for next time welcome, as always!
