I like to do in the bring the ends from the outside, through the loop, so that the loop kind of holds them down next to my body, then fluff. I can't see your tights, but cotton or wool cable knit tights would give this a more casual look (ok, keep in mind I know nothing of what's in style, hosiery-wise)&nbsp;and I second the idea of a denim jacket. A turtleneck sweater would also be something you could wear to dress down the skirt, not as casual as a henley, but casual nonetheless. I like this outfit. I don't really see the scarf as dressy -- it's one of those Indian ones with a thread of silver running through? Those read as casual to me. I wonder if this may be partly a climate related critique. Denise lives where it is warm and scarves are rarely needed (they are more of a fashion statement); we live in climates where scarves are often necessary quite apart from whatever fashion role they fill, so our eyes adjust to the look quite easily.
