Thanks, all! I'm so glad I moved these jeans from the never-wear-but-can't-quite-give-up pile to my current shorts pile.

Super! I'll be chopping my tired old white bootcuts to get the same length. I really like how the hem is at the point where your calf dips in towards your knee.

Thanks, everyone!

Janet, I've sometimes thought of that idea--getting a pair of cropped pants on sale for the express purpose of turning them into bermudas. I haven't done it, though, because I'd rather just buy the shorts than a craft project! Still, it's a way to get what you want.

Joy, great advice!

Thanks, Angie, Vickie, Caro and Suz!

I've been doing hack jobs on jeans a lot and intended to do more but the mid summer weather meant I could occasionally wear long jeans. I always cut longer than I think I need to and they end up being right. One can always cut more. I've noticed that rolling takes up extra width. If they are very narrow they need to be hemmed instead. Just a different look.
These look nicely boyfriendy on you.

Great job! I love the length. I did this with an old pair of jeans and have been wearing them to death this summer. I also did this with a pair of cropped Kut pants I got on sale at Nordstrom -- I liked the easy fit but hated the length, so I cut them off a few inches below the knee and wear them rolled up for long shorts.

Deciding *where* to cut has been my problem. I suppose erring on the long side is the thing to do. Thanks for the tutorial - I do have one of those right angle thingymabobs.

Pil, I was nervous, too. I measured the inseam on a pair of shorts I like, added a little to make these longer, and then added 4" for the turnup (so I can turn them up 2" twice). I just drew a line across the front of the pant leg, perpendicular to the inseam and side seam, and I cut through the back and front layers across the line. Go for it! You don't have much to lose, if you're not wearing the jeans as they are.

Angie inspired me with her outfit post here (the Rosie memorial ensemble) to make a pair of cutoffs. I had the perfect pair of jeans to use: my Lucky Sundowns, which I haven't worn for several years. They were the first pair of what I like to think of as my "hip" jeans (as I was just moving on from the Mom jean look), and they are a size up from my current jeans. They felt a little boyfriend-y, but with a flared leg that I didn't like all that well with the boyfriend fit.
I cut them per Angie's instructions--did not bother hemming, just rolled them up--although I see that mine aren't quite as long as hers. Still, I'm happy to have given these jeans a new life as long cutoffs!

Here I'm wearing them with a tattoo-print tee (One World), heeled tie-up sandals (P. Monjo), hemp jacket (Layers Squared), and brown leather belt (B Low the Belt).

Thanks for looking. Happy weekend!
