Oh yes quite right about the Dark Autumn palette, suntiger! Still I think a dash of Wrong Color (for one's personal coloring/palette) might be something to consider, judiciously applied....

Love the word sprezzatura too! Reminds me of hoe they always talk about how French women have the perfectly tousled hair.
To me the mustard in Suz's scarf is right on palette with the rest- but I am a Dark Autumn, so all of it goes with me!

Oh, I'm glad to have found some fellow Renata M. fans -- and instigated some more! To your point, Helena -- agree that the cigarette has got to go. I would replace it with a pen -- just as appropriate for a journalist, and so much healthier!!

Thanks kkards, Blue Jay, RobinF, and Helena!

Angie, I am not surprised you like the scarf! It is alllllmost Dutch Orange...but not quite!

Jaime, oh, sprezzatura! I have heard the term before but never really "got" it. Until now, maybe? Here for any discussion of sprezzatura and wabi-sabi you care to have!

Suz, yes, I see the similarities between your scarf and my deployment of mine! Somehow the mustard kind of makes the scarf, to my eye, even though in theory it should clash. Maybe "Wrong Color" is the new "Wrong Shoe"?

Terrific! She is a wonderful icon (minus the cigarette, it needs to be said!!!) I love how you've interpreted her style approach to make it your own. And I love the term Jaime shared: "sprezzatura (the Italian word for stylish imperfection)"

I agree, the scarf is the unexpected part. I do love the colors of the shirt and sweater together and then the pop of scarf brings it up a notch.

Very cool and you have just introduced me to a new icon! Like Jaime, I really love how you broke it all down, figured out what you love about her style here, and made it work for you, your way! The scarf is really fun with the sweaters. The colours in your overall outfit are like the ones in my scarf, here. Like you, I'm not an orange person and mustard must be my worst colour, ever, but I feel can wear this scarf well with the other cooler colours as dominant.

I like how you looked at your inspiration (analogous colors) and then interpreted it in your own palette of analogous colours.

I enjoyed reading the linked article about strict. Very interesting!

Long time admirer of Renata Molho here! A great example of sprezzatura (the Italian word for stylish imperfection). Now that I think of it there is a similar Japanese word: wabi-sabi. Anyway, that is a topic for another day.
I love how you analyzed and broke down what she was doing and made it your own Sarah. I am enjoying this challenge of yours!

The bright scarf is my favourite part! It's punchy and makes me smile, which is a biased personal thing because I like brights!

Ok, I promised more color and a switch-up from bare ankles so here we go.

I am mildly (read: extremely) obsessed with this woman -- Renata Molho, a Milanese fashion journalist. At first glance her ensembles are quite elegant in a European/Italian way -- simple, classic cuts, rich solid colors, what I believe the blogger at Passage des Perles would call "strict" style, or at least somewhere in that neighborhood. But look closer and you often notice something a bit offbeat and funky about her ensembles, maybe insouciant or maybe just nebbishy journalist; approaching kooky even, but to my eye she always pulls it off. So, elegance that doesn't take itself too seriously.

What really struck me about this image was the color palette. I love olive and teal together (I'd love to add some *saturated* olive to my wardrobe but it's tricky to find), and the addition of robin's egg/celadon makes it even better.

I can't copy the color palette exactly, so I abstracted another step: two colors of similar value/intensity (olive and teal) and one that contrasts (the lighter celadon), and two colors of similar temperature (teal and celadon) and one that contrasts (the warmer olive). I think the combination of balanced similarities and contrasts really makes the overall palette sing!

In my outfit, the two colors of similar value/intensity are the magenta sweater and orange in the scarf; the lighter and more muted rose/mauve top contrasts. Magenta and mauve are both cool; the orange is warm. (Side note: this orange isn't in my usual palette AT ALL, but I have always felt that I could carry off the scarf ok -- I think because the green, blue, and yellow in the print are very squarely in my wheelhouse.)

I added cognac riding boots (and an amber ring) to pick up the orange from the scarf; dark-wash denim (and dark blue glass bead earrings) to contrast with the orange.

Very happy with the overall effect here (and I would not have thought to put the scarf with this top/topper combo on my own, so happy with the experiment/exercise!) but open to your thoughts/suggestions. And curious if anyone else has admired Ms. Molho from afar?
