Shevia - Thanks for the compliment on my smile. Makes me smile more. And yes, these photo tips are great.

Firecracker - I know what you mean -- "if it's not manageable I won't do it". Word to live by. I'm hoping to get some simple technique for pictures and am pleased to be getting so many good tips. Thanks. And glad you like the coat. I feel like I need some wonderful winter boots for an even better look but haven't started that search. Maybe next year.

I like your outift--very cozy and stylish! The coat is such a good fit and length on you.
I am rather challenged with the camera, too. I don't have a tripod; I prop my camera on a railing and set the timer. I turn on all the lights in the room, which are not really enough for a clear photo, but I'm a little lazy about the whole thing. Not ready to go out and find a lamp or anything drastic like that. I have to keep it manageable or I won't do it. Oh, and I use the Preview application on my computer to crop the photos and usually to further lighten them before I post.

Welcome to the forum! I was going to give the same tip as Deborah; make sure you're not standing in front of the light source. If you have an iphone, after you tap to tell it where to focus, you should see a little sun with lines coming from it: if you drag it up, it'll lighten the exposure. Of course, it can only do so much before degrading the quality, but that might help a bit!

I didn't get say welcome yesterday, but I loved your post and you had me giggling out loud.

This is a great casual outfit. Simple, nice lines and great scarf.

With your photos try to have the light behind the camera. I often have my camera placed in front of a window to let the light in.

Really nice to have you here xx

Beth Ann - I'm diggin' the coat too. Has a sorta wax finish. Sweater blue.
And I've done some experimenting on the pictures.

So, round 2. I'll get the hang of this. And thanks for the tips!

Love the puffer! It has a great look and fit. I wish I could see the sweater better, but I so hear you about the learning curve on photo taking.

I use an iphone with an, er, tripod that hasn't broken (yet). A few weeks back, Mary posted a hack that uses binder clips as a makeshift tripod. I'd just make sure you affix it carefully, so the pressure doesn't harm your screen.

I use a specialty camera app (camera+) that has a timer. It will let me change the exposure a bit, too. When I get photos like yours, I can play with the exposure before I send. I also sometimes import them into iPhoto on my computer, although that takes a bit of time. Oh -- and I use the flash -- which sometimes highlights my chest quite inappropriately, but "oh well."

Will definitely need to experiment. Need to overcome this hurdle. Seeing the outfit is pretty essential. Haha.

shipskitty -- Good to know. Thanks! It actually makes me feel a lot better. I was thinking "How hard could this be?" - and it seems to have its challenges. Who knew!

I use my phone camera but they are very reliant on enough light which is a pain on a gloomy day. I sometimes turn the lights on as well as using daylight via the windows and lamps as well. Light sources are best from in front/side and overhead.

Dimity: More light. Very good suggestion.
Mona: Have resorted to iPhone but thinking should use DH's point and shoot digital. First tried with a newer camera of his that frankly has too much going on for me to handle.

Going to do a few more tests now.

I decided to make this a 7 day challenge of styling and picture taking. Hoping it reduces the anxiety, keeps me laughing, and jump starts some better habits.

And any suggestions on picture taking? I've recovered from the death of the tripod.
