Thank you shiney......your thoughtful response is appreciated. You are probably correct in regards to the skirt/ shirt proportions....I seem to be having trouble with figuring out length for shirts and skirts.

Would changing the belt to a lighter one help? Or do you think I should avoid altogether?

Here is a photo of me recently in a pencil skirt. I do think it looks better although I may like a tapered one better....

Congrats on the weight loss - that is awesome!

I have no clue about vintage/Boho looks, so I'm no help there, but I can help with the short-waisted apple part, as I am similarly shaped. What strikes me about this series of photos is how much slimmer you look in jeans compared to that skirt. Can you see it? I am wondering if that style of skirt is not your best? I find skirts like that quite a challenge to wear too. I do much better in a pencil skirt or something with structure and no pleats or gathers to poof over my belly.

Another style trick is to wear shorter tops with skirts, or to tuck the top into the skirt. This helps with the proportions and carves out the illusion of a waist. I think your instincts were right, adding a belt to cinch in your waist. However because the belt is dark it is cutting you visually, then you have another horizontal line where the hem of the shirt is, then another at your knee (lighter skirt vs darker tights). The effect is chopping you up, rather than lengthening you. Compare again to the looks with jeans, and see how much leaner and longer you look, without so many horizontal lines.

As for the blouses, #3 is awesome on you. #4 is the right direction for date night tops -- but I fear this blouse is too tight for you in the shoulders. I would also much rather see you in sleeveless. That cap sleeve is not adding anything, visually or practically. But a top like this without the cap sleeves would work great tucked into a pencil skirt!

Rachy I am in Cali so our winters are very very mild. Day time here this week is about 70....I have thrifted a couple of blazer/ suit jackets for various admin/ coordinator type position interviews and am trying to mix them into my SAHM capsule.....very basic pieces....mostly I am looking for vary basic SAHM things that are a step or two above yoga gear.

Zapotee thanks for the links I will navigate my way through those style bloggers. I was not sure if I should be looking at bloggers with similar body types or similar styles.

The blue top, #3, is the big winner. I agree. Don't suppose you'd be wild enough to try it together with the skirt? Lol.

I'd try the last top with the skirt. The first shirt is fine with the skirt, but the floatiness of the last top is very appealing. A little textural contrast.

What's your weather like right now? The skirt is very summery. The fabric seems a little lightweight for the stockings without some sort of layering up top. I see an overcoat type of coat instead of the business-y jacket in my mad schemes...

I see. I do apologize for my lack of background regarding your particular stage in this process. I do try to keep up but forget it, I just can't seem to remember everyone. You are doing the right things, posting the pictures, asking for feedback. Based on your comments, you are a quick study.Good for you!

You are not too far from what you are trying to achieve, not at all, IMHO. I do have some ideas for you, and please do take my advice with a huge grain of salt. I am clearly just a person, who spends an awful lot of time here and not an expert at anything. at. all.

I scratched my head thinking who here would have an overall boho/ vintage-y style and I came up empty. We don't have a lot of boho, it seems.

But I did remember a couple bloggers, whom you might use as inspiration.

Jessica from 'What I wore", used to do a lot of cutesy versions of colored tights, floral prints, Mary Janes and pumps. She is a bit more urban now but if you go back on her archives, you will see tons of inspiration. She is awfully cute!
http://whatiwore.tumblr.com/

Have you seen Sal from Already Pretty? She is quirky and fun! You might be able to relate to her stylistically speaking.
http://www.alreadypretty.com/

For lots of quirk. She is a riot.
Kasmira from What I wore 2day:
http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/

Congratulations on your weight loss and I hope to see much more of you. Thank you for indulging me with my little commentary.

ETA: I edited my prior post. Out of the tops I liked #3 best. I had written #4.

Zapotee,
Thank you for your honesty. I did not completely love this look....and generally don't like 90% of what I put together and that is a big reason why I am here...I did not know what my body type was or the name of the style I liked until you all helped me with it a few weeks back. I love my Mary Jane's, florals and tights but would love to refine or polish them a bit as not to look too young or silly. My goal is to archive a quirky element in my style but still maintain a classic and vintage look......I am pretty much starting from scratch as I have dropped 5 clothing sizes.....so anything goes I guess.

If you want me to be completely honest, I am not a big fan of woolen tights, Mary Janes and floral skirts together. I do think it has a lot to do with my ultra severe poison eye for the look. It reminds me of the stuff I was forced to wear to Church when I was little. It can be also too young a look. With that said, I think the overall proportions work and it is a cute outfit for a night in town.

Were you overall happy with the look? I think that is one of the best ways to know if one should wear something again. If happy, wear again!

You are not getting dressed to appease my poison eye, you are getting dressed to make yourself happy!!!!

As far as #3 and #4. I do like #3.

I always have problems with date night outfits too. I want something more fun than what I typically wear to work and not as kid appropriate as what I wear on the weekends. It can be tough to come up with new outfits. I love the cute bag in #1 and I like your tights and shoes. They bring an element of fun to your outfit.

Congratulations on the weight loss! It's wonderful and I can relate to the not having what you want in your closet stage.. I went thrifting a lot to build up quicker as I had no patience for doing it slowly...Rebuilding can be fun...

Agreeing that #3 is a great look for you and since that looks like a dressing room you are in, I hope you purchased it...

We went to Chevy's for fajitas.. And of course I would spill salsa on my shirt....since its white you know! We had a nice time though and were able to chat without constant interruptions from our 4 and 7 year olds.

For my outfit last night, I was trying to pull out darker versions of the colors in the skirt (pink, camel, blue and green.) Cranberry for shoes and tights, darker chocolate in the jacket and belt....My cami under was a darker blue. You can see the skirt pattern here its the bottom left. http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....nd-dresses

My style is arty eclectic. I love vintage and the romantic look of soft prints and lace but it is hard to do vintage casual....I just lost 70 pounds so my closet is practically non existent with mostly random Ill fitting pieces that have been thrifted, handed down or clearance racked. I am trying to put together a few things for a SAHM capsule until I finish my weight loss and then go from there.

I think if you have lots of button ups you are on to something. I do like #3 the best - the proportions are really good on you. I see what you mean about #1 - a softer jacket or a shirt that brings the colours together may make it work. It's hard to make suggestions when I don't know what is in your wardrobe but I think your instincts are great:) What sort of style are you going for?

My wonderful husband took me out on a date tonight. I tried a gazzilion things with this skirt and this is the best I could come up with with my minimal closet. Not my worst, but its all business up top and fun on the bottom.....disjointed maybe? Is this a look I should continue with or discard? The belt I feel may not bring my best out. Short wasted apple/ rectangle...I do love my shoes and old school L.A.M.B. bag. Yummy!!

I tried more blouses and feel like banging my head against the wall.....nothing looks or fits right. The blue blouse has potential but its a button up....the only thing I have a ton of in my closet.

I love the cream blouse with the bow details but I don't think its the best choice for me.....back to the drawing board.

Thoughts for next time (SAHM capsule)
