In my teens they had a lipstick, a long last type lipstick in a very slender tube. The color was Mauve Ice. It was a warm mauve, almost matte yet it had frost/shimmer in it. (It was probably a soft season color.) It was the only lipstick my mother ever complimented me for and loved me in. I have a feeling she herself is a Soft Summer and loved the color as much as she loved seeing me in a non red lipstick. I had dreams of becoming a makeup artist but just never knew where to start and didn't take any steps toward it. But I still love makeup dearly. I was very much an ugly duckling as a teen. I wore a lot of makeup to compensate for lack of confidence, among other lacks. Makeup has just been one of those constant things. And the only paint I understand. My father was a craftsman and interior designer, while my sister is a fine arts artist. Makeup feels attainable to me. It is the ultimate art in some ways because it frames the person and can alter and create perceptions. The forecast is for 70F today and I just couldn’t resist pulling out summer clothing! </p> <p>I call this outfit and look Cuban Coffee Queen. When we lived in the Keys, there was a coffee chain called Cuban Coffee Queen. Truthfully, the coffee and food weren’t any superior to our favorite mom and pop corner Cuban coffee stop. However, the creative, evocative name was truly tops. The hairstyle and tropical print pants especially make me feel close to the Keys and its deep Cuban influence. </p> <p>I styled these pants with my pointy toe black flats. I wasn’t wearing 3-4” wedges for school co-op. And my sandals are a warm silver metallic which felt off. </p> <p>To balance all the black, I played off a thin strip of deep umber from the pants’ print. So this means.:: Clove brown long cardi. Milk chocolate camisole. </p> <p>The hair scarf is new and 100% silk. The hair style, I feel, especially makes this outfit pop and sing. Pairing the scarf allows for a tiny bit of print mixing. </p> <p>Ethnic inspired “hoop” earrings finish the looks. I skipped large amounts of jewelry today. </p> <p>Makeup is soft smoky eye with a warm berry lip. This lipstick is one I wear all summer long; it’s a rare Dark Autumn pink/berry.
