I actually like it best with a white tee. Have you tried a looser one if you aren't comfortable with the more bodycon look?

ETA; I think the crop top hem needs to be swingier with a looser top. I have flailed with this look for ages, and can't seem to find the right combo especially being busty... Argh!

Honestly, I have a hard time getting this look to work for me. It the underlayer is tight I look lumpy and preggo, and if it's loose then it sort of pinches where the crop top ends, and then bubbles out, looking dumb. You've done a good job but sucking it in is just too much effort!

The button-down is OK, especially with the scrunched sleeves, but if you don't like it then it's a no-go. I don't care for the sleeved tee under the knit top (beautiful knit top, btw!) but I do like the tank and the peplum tank.

Ok, home now and tried this with the silk blouse and peplum tank. I think the necklines of the blouse and sweater fight with each other, and I don't ever wear my shirts buttoned to the top. Plus as I suspected I don't like the layered sleeves. The peplum tank might have promise though. Thoughts?

I think one problem with the white top is that you have two different necklines competing with each other. That's something to look out for as you experiment!

So the tank in this outfit is looser, and I do think it works better. The other way I've worn this crop top is with a sack dress, which obviously avoids the lumpy waistband issue anyway.

I will try with the silk blouse when I get home. The sleeves don't stay cuffed well though because they are so slippery. I don't mind a cuff sticking out from a jacket or sweater, but I'm not sure how I feel about half the sleeve sticking out. Still, I will give it a try. I'd like to figure out a way to keep wearing this when it's cooler out.

Agreeing that a more flowy underlayer might work better. I have never been able to get the cropped sweater to work for me for precisely the same reasons.

The crop top is beautiful, and I like the idea of white under it with the pants. A flowy top would work better, I think. You mention you don't like longer sleeves under shorter ones, but I do like that kind of layering. Have you given it a try? I'm on the fence about the cap sleeves with this top. I'd go with a tank or a long sleeve.

It might be a fun experiment, esp since the crop top's sleeves are elbow-length. You could roll the sleeves of the silk blouse, too.

I like the idea of a peplum tank, too.

And love the color of that top - did you knit this one, as well?

I don't own a white button down! Not a classic one, anyway. I do have a cream silk one with pinstripes that I could try. Not sure I like the look of long sleeves sticking out from under a shorter sleeved sweater though.

Today I wanted to try layering a tee (as opposed to a cami or tank) under this holey crop top for a change.
I was not too happy with the execution here. I am majorly sucking it in in the pictures and I still look 3 months pregnant. Ugh. I think the white tee is just too clingy around the midsection so it shows the bulk from the elastic waistband and drawstring. Plus these pants are high waisted on me and tend to give me reverse muffin top (i.e. below the waistband rather than over it), so I prefer slightly looser tops with them.

Oh well. Live and learn. Aside from muffin top issues, do you think the rest of the outfit works? I'm curious what people think of the short sleeved tee under the elbow sleeve sweater. Too much going on?
