I really like grey and navy but have not worn the combination in a long time. That needs to change. Your outfit looks tonal grey on my monitor. It looks ladylike yet comfortable. Would a belt visually lower the waist? That is my only thought of a possible change. I'd continue to wear it as styled otherwise.

E :: thank you. I hope your health improves.

I have asked for thoughts because they matter and make me think and move forward.
You are so right about contrasts - I feel most like me in strong contrasts. This exercise, both successes and failures, brought home that realisation once more.

As for suggestion to try the lighter greys, there is a final outfit from this self-challenge and I hope it answers your question

Navy & grey is one of my favourite combinations too! :)

That jacket is gorgeous & I love the general shapes on you. I haven't been able to comment on your other posts this week (health stuff), but since you asked for thoughts...I think you look most striking in the columns with a bit of contrast, either between the colours & neutrals or between darker and lighter neutrals. You still look beautiful and sophisticated in this, but perhaps there's not quite as much sparkle (to my eye) as your usual combinations. Have you tried navy with lighter greys?

I think you like the fit of the jacket contrasted with the flow of the skirt. The combination works and looks polished. But you know me I am craving a dash of your signature red or a bit more shine.

Grey and navy is always a lovely combination. This looks like a fun jacket, have you ever paired it with a white turtleneck so the jacket details stand out more?

Thank you Neel, MG and Liz.

Suz :: I did wear this jacket with jeans in the past and I might again - thanks for the reminder. As for collar+turtleneck I'm complete opposite when it comes to two like these worn together and in my case I feel I can pull off round collar jacket only with the turtleneck. I actually have no idea what else would work for me personally, so I might investigate.

Beth Ann :: jacket + jeans coming soon...as for the waist - I am shortwaisted actually, the skirt sits on my natural waist and it is rather high (also obvious in yesterday's outfit), so the jacket may just be enhancing that. Thanks for the suggestions about the belts. Again, because of my 'configuration' I cannot play too much with pushing the belts to the low side of the waistband as it simply keeps sliding up, but I do agree the wider ones are better options to offset short waist issues

MaryK :: I've nearly fainted after jumping to your thread. Cross-continental YLF sisterhood vibes in action or what? Will this be renamed to MaryK style jacket in my wardrobe??

Yes, I agree that something about this is just not right. I think maybe it's the placement of where the jacket hits the skirt. It's also not really waist surrendering and yet masks your waist.

Gorgeous colors and rich textures, Ornella! You must wear this jacket with jeans as well, yes? (And I just saw that Suz added the same comment). I do like the classic jacket/skirt look --- it's very ladylike and retro, and the drape in the skirt makes it a bit special. It does, perhaps, make you seem a bit short waisted, as these jackets sometimes do. That's not necessarily an issue at all -- since you have those gloriously long legs, but I wonder about a belt at the waist. I'm longwaisted, but my bust makes me look shorter there, so sometimes I'll belt a skirt or dress so the belt sits on the low side of the waistband. I like a nice 1 1/2 or 2 in belt for this purpose.

Just an idea! I think the softness of the skirt with a boxy jacket is a great juxtaposition!

I love navy and grey together. Two of my favourite neutrals! I like it, although something about the proportion seems a bit off. This may be a very slight poison eye on my part for round collared jackets with turtlenecks (something I actually wear myself, too, but with some trepidation because I always feel a bit "off" that way.) So take that with a big grain of salt!

I think that jacket would look fantastic with jeans. Do you wear it that way? I tend to like those jackets best when they are juxtaposed with something more casual.

IRL the top and the skirt of the intended base column in grey match much better, but what you see is overexposure, flash and lighting on a dull rainy day all in one… Anyway, earlier this winter Una sported navy+grey and I fell in love with the combination, so this was a nice opportunity to see what else can be done with my wardrobe in terms of that very combination plus creating the outfit around the Column of Colour.

The option with the solid navy cardigan, which I'm not showing, however turned out so-so (read: frumpish), so I reached for the jacket I did not have many opportunities to wear this year and unsurprisingly it felt better.

Also, I'm wearing grey polkadot hose and long (hi Sona and Catnip) necklace.

Thanks for looking if you're still with me throughout this experiment. Any thoughts?
