<p>Unfrumped - thanks, the boots are very cool!</p>
<p>Bijou - thank you! Cozy seems to be the best thing right now. Things are so hard all around.,</p>
<p>Joy, thank you for sharing this. To me, at age 41, the possibility of having the long haul virus effects is the most terrifying. My best friend has it, and it has ruined his life. No exaggeration. I know how it’s devastated older people, too.&nbsp;<div><div><br /></div><div>To be clear, I am not upset at my mom at all. I’d have expected her to attend the usual Christmas of my aunt, uncle and and two cousins. My family has not thought of her at all with their decisions to expand the gathering.&nbsp; She doesn’t want to spend Christmas with 15 people at my cousin’s place where there’s not even enough room for everyone to sit, plus she’s scared of COVID. &nbsp; She also doesn’t want to be alone. The mental health aspect of all this is important too, for sure.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>We are hoping we can go see her. The three of us would be reasonably safe in our own bubble, especially since we can self-isolate first. The uncertainty&nbsp;around my move out is the only problem, though we will have some say on that timing.&nbsp;</div></div>

<p><b>@Joy</b> - I am so sorry to hear of what you and those close to you are going through, very sobering stuff indeed.</p>
<p><b>Christina</b>, it is so lovely to see you and your outfits are fab. Buying a Cookie Monster sweater and cosy flannels are great ways to look stylish and also soothing to wear. It is a dilemma how to stay connected with loved ones and celebrate Christmas this year and keep everyone as safe as possible, thank goodness for technology and virtual catch ups.

<p>These are especially hard times for older people (like me) thinking this could be my last Thanksgiving or Christmas. It is really hard to know what to do. I have chose. to stay safe at home but question the wisdom<br />
of that as life and time slip by so quickly. We have had too many dear ones die or have the virus but recovery is long and still ongoing. I doubt that they will ever be really themselves again. One is having tests done of each organ after her husband died of the virus and she is trying to recover. She is having a tough time physically and emotionally although supported by family and friends in small town Iowa. three dear friends have become widows over the last few months and DBIL has seen his dear wife die alone of the virus and is not doing well himself. He is very weak and still waiting u ntil it will be safe to have a funeral for her. You would feel terrible if you gave this virus to your mother, but I understand her feelings.<br />
I and sorry you are having all this stress on top of moving stress. Take care of yourself.

<p><div>Thanks everyone for the sympathy on the family stuff. I know so many families are struggling this year over different approaches to the pandemic. I am glad my husband's family has agreed that it's all going to be virtual and apart this year--that's one less source of stress.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>rachylou </b>- good luck with that! My family eats early - it's a Portuguese thing, I think? It's actually not that bad, as it gives time to digest and unwind before dessert/coffee later on.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>lyn67</b>-we are moving from the Upper West Side to Bed-Stuy. So still in NYC, but from a tiny one bedroom into a duplex with way more space, huge closets, and a patio/yard space. Brooklyn has always felt like a different city in some ways, and it's an hour from where we are now. We always planned to move this year or next, so it's not a pandemic move per se, though the pandemic did make us prioritize private outdoor space... and Bed-Stuy is the place for that!<br /></div></p>

<p><div>Thans Carla! Moving is the worst but we plan to never do it again! Fortunately the new places is spacious and we can modify things as we get older. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Liesbeth, if we go to see my mom, it would just be her. My larger family has a yard with a firepit, so maybe I'd see a few other people briefly there with masks on. I'd ruled us visiting out as unsafe for my mom, but now it seems safer than letting her attend a large party out of loneliness and family pressure. This depends on whether we can self-isolate first, which is unclear right now. This year is so hard.</div><div><br /></div><div>slim cat - thank you!</div><div><br /></div><div>Angie, sort of twins! I did have that same shirt, but I decided it didn't me all that well, so I let it go after one season. I tried again this year with a flannel option of that same plaid, and it is in fact more forgiving! Button downs are hard to fit.</div><div><br /></div><div> I missed you too! My family is 4 hours away by car, so it's feasible to visit my mom relatively safely if we can self-isolate beforehand (which is the part I'm not sure about). I won't see the others in the family unless its outdoors; they live near my mom but not with her. Please stay safe in Seattle!</div><div><br /></div><div>Cardiff girl - it's very hard right now, for sure. My mom smokes, and seems unlikely to give up, so I'm especially worried. I'm also very angry that my family would pick this year to have their largest-ever gathering--it's because my cousin has a new baby and is asking both sides of his family to come to him.... in his small apartment... all at the same time. He's works in healthcare and it's just... unbelievable. I'm still really angry.<br /></div>

<p>Looking fabulous, <b>Christina</b>! Lots of fun plaid and great casual jackets! Good to see you. Missed you....</p>
<p>Great idea hacking the Boden dress a little shorter. GORGEOUS on you :)&nbsp;</p>
<p>What a great time to nest! Wonderful you've found a buyer for the old apartment. The planets are aligning, and there is a lot to be thankful for.</p>
<p>The state of WA went back into partial lockdown last week. Phase 1.5 and we were in Phase 2 (remote areas in Phase 3). Phase 1 is the Stay At Home order. It's okay! The new restrictions have not affected us at all actually. People here in Seattle seem to be very practiced at how to get through the restrictions this time round. It's calm here - for the first time since March.&nbsp;</p>

<p><div>Hi all! I haven't felt too chatty lately, but I wanted to check in. It's been exhausting having one apartment on the market as we wait to move to the new one (I'll include some personal updates at the end).<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>I don't have a full-length mirror since I had my apartment painted, and won't get one until after I move. I took a few pics i the lobby My apartment runs warm but is unpredictable, and I have bought some flannels as they are good for layering and are warm but not stifling. (I had run out of flannel shirts that fit me--bad 90's girl!). I also got some Frye boots for my birthday.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Here are some outfits--aside from the one dress, it's mostly tops and jeans (or other comfy bottoms) right now due to the weather. I don't really want to wear hosiery to work from home. I don't find it comfortable at all.<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>1 Boden dress. I have since hemmed this dress 2 inches.</div><div>2-3 includes the new boots</div><div>4 Sweatshirt, jeans and house shoes</div><div>5 Flannel and new boots, with my short puffer</div><div>6 Very similar outfit! as umber 5!</div><div>7 I Felt a bit dressier. The pants are new and should be cropped but aren't on me at all. I may have them hemmed but will likely wait at this point till next Fall.</div><div>8 Bonus gear shot. I get a discount to Patagonia and they gave me an extra perent off for the the holidays, and I was looking for a fleece pullover. I refer to this fleece as my "Cookie Monster" fleece. Me want cookie!</div><div><br />
</div><div>Our apartment has a buyer--I think we have come to terms. We haven't signed anything yet, but it looks good. We should be able to close soon after we move, which is looking like late December or early January.<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
Covid is increasing here in NYC as elsewhere. We are being cautious-some dining (outdoor only), walks, normal grocery shopping. We will spend the winter organizing and decorating our new home, anyway, and hopefully won't mind the isolation too much. I may have to visit my mother for Christmas somehow, since my family had decided to have more people for the holidays than usual (I'm so angry--family dynamics changed in the last year though.) I'd rather she spend it with just the two of us, if we can quarantine first, than either 15 other people OR all alone. The timing of our move may upend this plan, though.<br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>Please stay safe everyone!<br />
