I like both of them very much. I think I had a necklace in gold very similar to yours in #3.
I am glad you found your happy space with this blouse. I completely agree with the YLF rule you noted at the beginning of this post.

Thank you suzanne. Only a week ago I never would have thought that I'll consider chambray an essential wardrobe item. This series has been very interesting to do and I am happy if it was helpful to others too.

More importantly, as unfrumped pointed out (thank you too ), to re-wear what we have. I have been forced to reassess my wardrobe partly for practical reasons and if anything smaller wardrobe space, which led to smaller wardrobe, actually meant more possibilities for me. 90% of what I wore these days is 3-4 years old and it was only about seeing things through different filters and - well - having fun with fashion

And thanks everyone for being constructive, helpful and gentle in your guidance.

I like both of those looks and would be happy to copy! Again I love the stripe in the skirt picking up to the shirt color, and the belt is great. The shift dress has good proportions.

Your experiments keep reminding me not to be afraid to keep re-wearing items I love rather than having endless variety, but to mix them up also.

Your creativity continues to amaze! I always love the blouse under pinafore look and especially with the chambray. Gosh that looks great. Really great. So it's funny, one of the current looks (that Inge even sent you) that I just completely love is the chambray with the black and white striped skirt. It makes me crave the chambray and the skirt. You've come pretty close to creating that color mix with your look. That skirt was closer to your #4. You will have persuaded all of us that the chambray is the most essential building block of our wardrobe. I admit I'm about 80% there already. I'm just about to need one of my own thanks to your styling. You rock.

I love #1, it's just so. I think the second look, the one after the inspiration look, needs to be mussed a little. Like with the funky knotted belt.

The small alterations have made such a difference in how you feel in the shirt, am I right?
Both outfits are wonderful, Ornella. I love how the boots add pizzazz in outfit one, and the necklace and Una belt are such excellent touches in outfit two. (excellent striped skirt too:-)

I vote repeat and enjoy!

Waking up the the lovely start of Sunday morning. Thank you all for the comments and taking time to share your thoughts.

Jeanne :: the shirt over this dress would not work, the dress is too thick for what i like as underlayer. But, I'll keep the idea at the back of my mind, thank you.

lyn67 :: the skirt is from Dorothy Perkins. They stock Tall range, so I bought a few things last Christmas when I was in the UK - part of the fun then was revisiting familiar brands. It is not ideal (DP still is mostly a bit off in terms of reliability and quality for my liking, but they can get it right too), I prefer both thicker fabrics for skirts and the stripes are not aligned on the side hems, but It was an inexpensive experiment which gave me free skirt pattern and is just the right waist height and skirt length for me. This is a very simple 2-hems down the sides skirt which I plan to replicate.

deb :: I took 1.5 inch from each side hem, raised shoulder hem by 2 inches and shortened the shirt by 2.5 inches front ant back so there's no bulk when it's tucked in. I also cut off the fabric which keeps the tabs rolled up - it was too sporty. This is how I mostly want to wear the shirt, tucked in, so less bulk was my ultimate goal. The original style of the shirt is not perfect for my bodytype mostly because of the dropey shoulders, but I think I rescued that as much as I could. I'm happy with the learning and it was all worth it because the shirt would end up being a loungewear, which is a shame as I'd not realise how versatile it can be for me.

Lisa :: the skirt is bodycon with very little give. When I buy pencil skirts I look for those that do not pull over my widest part, so that it's not stretched and the bit that's left hanging down does not narrow steeply. Does it ring a bell what I mean - I don't know how to explain otherwise? I also like the skirts which are a little tapered at the bottom, because when they are cut too straight it looks bad to me and the curve does not look intentional. I've learnt the importance of this small taper with one dress I altered after Aida's suggestion a while ago. This is also why I find that tulip-style skirts work for me. I have one which is actually part of the dress, but it's quite obvious that the more you make it look like the style is what creates that lower-body curve, the less it looks like you're fixing a proportion iykwim :-)

Wow! You certainly have put an almost orphaned shirt to good use this week. These are just amazing. Clearly the little alteration helped a lot. I love both looks! There were a lot of "pinafore" type outfits in the 2014 fall collections (as in #1 -- yay for the necklace!!). As for #2, it's just stunning. That's a fabulous belt.

YLF rule #2: Wear the heck out of your clothes.

Not a problem.

-

The first outfit was repeated attempt at layering the shirt under the sheath dress. The first time I tried it I did not post it, because I did not wear it as it felt so wrong. Too much bulk underneath the dress. When I chopped off a lot of fabric the shirt suddenly felt more comfortable to wear.

They can't be seen well, but the black hose have huge grey polkadots which echo my Santa Suz necklace.

-

The second outfit is inspired by one of Inge's pins. I love high waisted skirts, belted or not. Because my skirt is made of rather thin material I felt it needed the belt to make everything more pulled together. Out came the neglected studded belt, lovingly referred to as my "Una belt" because Una was on the studs kick when I bought it. To add more brightness in the top part of the outfit I wore the necklace inside the collar, as suggested in the comments in my first experiment. #3 closeups, #4 is the inspiration outfit.

Both comfortable for endless furniture shopping at the end of the work days and weekend. I'd happily repeat both. Your thoughts?
