Lovely berry shades on you! Jeneva has excellent advice, I was thinking similarly. The outerwear look is quite sharp, and since you felt a little sloppy in the cardigan perhaps a jacket would give you some crispness and structure there. I might also try tying the scarf as an infinity style.

I love all these berry shades together; very on trend for Fall!

While this looks perfectly lovely, here are some of my thoughts to polish it a little more:

I would love to see the top, scarf and cardi with a pair of bootcut or flare trousers and a heeled bootie. I think that long scarf with trousers would be very lengthening, while keeping the color pallet.

With the skirt, I think I'd shorten the length of the scarf to make it look more like a pussy bow blouse, and lose the cardigan. Possibly tuck the blouse in a bit more as well. I think the cardi and non-fitted blouse with the skirt are creating two squares and cutting you in half (although the long scarf does work to combat this).

I love how the long, lighter scarf looks with the outerwear. Very elegant.

Thanks, and yes first WIW.

I'm already co-ordinated and comfortable, but I also want to look refined, polished and modern. Especially for work (business casual) but also weekend/dress down Fridays.

Hi plonkee! Nice to "see" you... is this your first WIW? If so, welcome!

Your purple scarf is gorgeous and I love the plum of your blouse. The coat in #2 makes a great angled line on you that works better than the open cardigan in #1. That might be what you're seeing/feeling when you say it seems "sloppy."

If you're trying to refine your style, I think it would help if you shared some thoughts on where you think you'd like to go and what your lifestyle needs are. The collective wisdom here is staggering and can definitely help you to get where you're going!

I'm trying to refine my style, so I thought I'd post a typical work outfit for me. It's all last year or before except the shoes.

I didn't actually wear the cardigan much as it was mostly warm today. It's the element I'm least happy with, it feels too sloppy. The blouse is a beautiful blue-ish burgundy. The scarf isn't a huge favourite but coordinates quite well.

I'm also sharing my autumn outerwear - a black trench coat together with my new dark blue bag. I really like this look.

Comments and improvements most welcomed.
