Love the colors here- you look great. I also like the coat in #3 for its colors but also am a bit put off by the gathered waist. Go with your instincts.

You look gorgeous in pink -- whether it's hot pink or bubblegum, who cares!?! It's especially lovely in the snow. I also like the way you have arranged your scarf in #2. I have a feeling the outfit was less boxy IRL -- I think it is partly to do with the photo angle because I can see the jacket actually has some waist definition. It can be a trial an error process for sure to get the pictures working well. For me, around waist height is best, maybe a bit below.

Thanks all for the advice!

fuzzylogic I think I've found a better option for a long coat, but if I keep this one, a wide belt is definitely an option.

Cocolion I do work in art/design, but funnily enough, not with color. I'll try that with the camera.

Greyscale I agree, I like the possibilities of these, although they do usually work with black too.

Marina I often wear a different color scarf with the first pink coat (the scarf exactly matches the coat buttons, but not the coat fabric), I think I might have over-saturated the color trying to get it to read correctly. On one monitor the pink coat looks bubblegum (which is the color) on another it looks hot pink. Good idea to go with contrast though if there is a chance two almost the same colors might not work. Good advice on belting the jacket -- I normally wouldn't wear it with skirts, I just didn't have another blue coat to test. Thanks for the fine tuning tips -- very helpful!

MuseumGal the shoes are Sugar brand patent not-leather oxford creepers. They are great for rain because of the higher sole and the shoe surface repeals water. Very comfy. Originally from Kohl's but I've also seen them on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WOMENS.....AND-/22137

Ornella and kellygirl I'm feeling the same way with the coat, thanks for the second eye.

E that makes sense, I guess I was going for intentionally boxy, but then it didn't work for me in the pic, although it kind of did in mirrors and such. Tricky the differences.

caro good to know that the scarf doesn't work for everyone, thanks.

And thanks ceit and gryffin for the color props :)

Waist height camera definitely helps things look more proportional! Also, if you're using a camera with a zoom, and you have the space to back up from it, zoom in a bit. Wide angle lens distort things too. :)

Your colour experiments on great fun! I suppose the skirt & jacket look a bit boxy, but you don't look boxy under them, so it looks intentional and not problematic. Does that make sense? Love the way you bookended the magenta with that big cowl. And those shoes are wonderful!

The Target coat looks really cute to me, but I can't see many of the waistband details. If you feel self-conscious in it, it's not worth keeping because you won't wear it!

I love all of these.

Wearing two items in similar shades close together is my recent discovery, so I may be biased when it comes to #1. But, I objectively think it looks great :-)

#2: The boxy silhouette is perfectly fine and I only took notice because you pointed it out. This is pretty, cheerful wintery look that I would repeat in a heartbeat. Great shoes too.

#3: I like the coat when it comes to colour and pattern, but I am not sure about the gathered waist. If it was tailored it would be a different thing, but to me it looks scrunched and somehow that seems odd in combination with heavy and wintery piece the coat itself is.

Great outfits, but I'd have added some improvements. On the first, I'd go with the scarf of another color, something contrasting to the jacket yet similar to other items of the outfit! On the second: I have alike puffer jacket (I added the photo below), but I wear its belt very occassionaly. I prefer to wear this with pants or jeans, no skirts. Though, I liked how you added the tights of the similar color. And the third photo, the coat is gorgeous - classy, chic and stylish. No objections!

I love these bright combos, especially against the snow. And I think the pink/olive and pink/blue are probably even better than combining those pink pieces with black, though I bet that would be a great high-contrast look as well.

Oh and I like to place the camera at waist level for a proportionate read. A picture taken at hip level can make the hip bigger, one taken at or above your head enlarges the head. It's trial and error I've found.

Angie's posts have got me thinking about wearing more color in the winter, and also using navy or ink blue as a neutral rather than my default black. So here's two running errands in the snow outfits I wore this week.

Experimenting with the pink and olive combination (Columbia boots to keep it real, although I'd go with tan or muted brown leather options if it wasn't all slush).

Magenta and navy. I really liked these colors, but the skirt and puffer jacket together looked pretty boxy to me after looking at the photo so I semi-tucked the underneath shirt (longish drapey navy), so that the join of the two colors was an arc rather than a straight line.

(As an aside, taking these photos is a learning process, my head isn't actually that huge or my feet and legs that tiny, does it work best if the camera is at waist height instead?)

I also tried this checked Target coat on while shopping that went well with the the magenta/navy colors, but I'm not sure how I feel about the gathered waist.
