Shannon, have you tried the Gap boyfriend jeans? They run big and I have them in two sizes for a less baggy and a more baggy look... The petite length is REALLY short so I got regular for rolled and unrolled options.

Shannon, just so you know, I had to relegate a pair of wide leg jeans after I saw the pics last year. I LOVED those pants. They weren't PPL (because they were petites) but I though I could get away with it in flats. NOPE. They weren't even truly PPL with those, plus they just made me look seat. I didn't see it in the mirror, but I saw it in the photos. Sigh...

Rae - I've only posted these jeans once before (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-different) and in looking at that outfit, I can see the jeans aren't completely flattering. I think these will be relegated to "hanging out at home jeans" and I'll search for a different pair. I might try a couple of combinations with these and post to see what you think but I suspect these are not going to work regardless.

Oh, I love your hubby. Why didn't he say it was the "sexy butch" look, LOL???

I adore those colours on you. And I love the idea of this outfit. To me it all comes down to the jeans, and I agree with the others that the fit is just not QUITE where you want it to be here. Which I know is immensely frustrating. It is so darn hard to find jeans that fit RIGHT! And you'd think, with baggy, that it would matter less or be easier, right? Urgh. I have a feeling it's especially important to get that fit right for us height-challenged women.

Anyway...I love the idea of this, and prefer it with unrolled jeans in this version.

Diana's comment about the heel was so interesting. I'd never thought of that!

Wow, that color of coral makes you glow! (Good glow not nuclear glow.)

I love boyfriend jeans. Lately, I am getting sick of super skinny, although I still wear them. What I have learned about bf's is that they are tricky! I have tried some on that really don't work. But once I found a pair whose fit I love, it worked. So keep searching Shannon because I need someone else to join me on team loose pants.

BTW these are my favorites, I have them in a dark and lighter wash. Fit is superb, not too baggy not too tight. I wear mine longer than the model, unrolled.

Shannon love your willingness to experiment and out yourself out there:). For me it's primarily the fit of the jeans that throw me here but I can see that you feel that to. The idea is cool though and I would suggest with some refining you can make a version of this work.

Angie - you have not spoiled my fun at all! How am I going to learn if you don't tell me the truth, right? Don't you worry your pretty head one minute - I am going to continue to experiment and you are going to continue to give me the "straight goods", ok? I never EVER want you to go with the flow if it's not really what you feel and believe. I have no desire to wander around my home town not looking fab so THANK YOU!!!

if it's any consolation, I kept thinking something was off but I didn't know what it was. And as soon as I got home from running my errands, I changed my jeans to my Gap L&L's, so obviously I had an inkling.

Shannon, you know I love the idea of this, but something about the jeans is bothering me. I'm looking at my version of this outfit here:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....and-marley

and I think the difference is in the fit of the jeans. I think the belt is necessary to give waist definition, so I like that part of it. Maybe a more cropped jacket too? I just stumbled on this formula, so you may need to experiment to get it right for you.

I LOVE that you are trying out this look - you are so fearless!

Shannon, I'm sorry to be a mare and the only spanner so far :(. There is something not right about this juxtaposition to my eye - although I like the idea in theory very much.

At first I thought it was the jacket - you need a longer blazer.

Then I thought it was the shoes - you need something more refined.

Then I thought it was the belt. Too horizontally cutting.

Yet, I'm going to boil it down to the fit of the jeans that are just *not flattering enough* to be cool. The rise seems too high, the fit is not straight, the scrunch is too extreme for your height and the roll does not improve the situation.

I feel bad about spoiling your fun here - especially because your experimentation is precisely what I advocate and I love your hubby's support in all all this. But if I went with the flow, I would not be doing my job. I hope that you are okay with this, darling Shannon. ((HUGS)). You know I think that you and your style rock. Keep up the experimentation.

I like this, Shannon! Great juxtaposition of masculine and feminine. I prefer the jeans unrolled because I like the scrunch at the bottom.

For some reason, I really really want to see this with the Doc Saras too. I think having the separate heel (rather than a wedge) often helps with elongation too, and the Saras are still chunky enough to get the more masculine vibe.

I like the unrolled jeans. I like how you are playing with this. My only suggestion would be to do a lighter belt (something with lower contrast) to make the line longer. I am ok myself with some leg shortening sometimes. I know I'm only 5'4" and I'm ok with that lol.

Do you have a top in a similar blue to the jeans? If so, you could create an elongating vertical column of blue with the pink top and butchy jeans/boots. That might resolve the issue of the shortening effect on your petite frame.

Rae/Sona - thank you for the suggestions! This outfit is a long way from perfect so definitely need help for tweaking this style in the future. Much appreciated.

I think untucking could be the answer, as well as exchanging the top for something darker. I actually tried the jeans, boots with a white tee and my black tuxedo jacket to see what it looked like. I really liked that ensemble but it was a bit dressy for grocery shopping!

TS: for some reason I'm wondering about this ensemble with lighter colored shoes. I realize the shoes have a 'masucline' connotation but this outfit looks a litte vertically shortening to my eye. Perhaps trying the tank/underlayer like Rae suggested might be the answer or trying a lighter shoe?

I reallllly loved this in pics 1-2. The girlie pink and feminine bag make me so happy! The jeans are best uncuffed IMO>

The one issue I have with it is that in pic 3, the shirt, jacket, and belt all hit at the same spot, and it sort of chops you in half and makes you look wider than I know you are across the midsection - this probably is not as pronounced as you move about IRL. If you wanted to mitigate this effect in the future, I might try an underlayer that is low contrast to your denim, so that you create a long line instead of two distinct halves of color. Maybe a drapey black knit top? Simply untucking your current shirt might help as well.

This outfit just exudes style confidence! I love the mixed pinks and the slouchy jeans. I prefer them uncuffed because of the great gathering at your ankles. I'd love to see thie jeans and shoes with an even softer blouse to really play up the contrast.

I love this! Sort of butch (a style I like), but the femme color is a great juxtaposition....fantastic original outfit!

Yay, a casual Saturday outfit! This is really cute and kudos for wearing a heel! I might have a preference for an untucked shirt but other than that I love it! Happy erranding! :)

ETA: I forgot to answer your question about the cuffing. I don't know! I like them both, for different reasons. I'll have to defer to the experts on that one.

I've become interested in exploring the pairing of feminine and masculine, baggy and structured in an outfit. This is particularly interesting to me in casual clothing. So today is my first attempt at Baggy Britches Shannon.

I started my outfit with my faded Gap BF jeans, then added my Doc Marcie's for footwear. These two items represent both the masculine and the baggy portion of the outfit. Then I popped on my Gap bright pink polo shirt and my lighter pink Gap cropped jacket. The pink represents the feminine portion and the jacket represents the structure. I added my black leather belt to tie in with the boots and then topped it all off with polka dot cross body bag. Hubby really liked this ensemble and said it was interesting and different, in a good way. I'm comfortable and ready to go run my errands.

Did I get this right? Which is better - cuffed or uncuffed? I know baggy britches are not figure flattering for petite apple me, but I'm quite fine with that. How are the proportions? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome

Jacket: Gap (thrifted)
Polo: Gap (thrifted)
Jeans: Gap BF (thrifted)
Boots: Doc Martens (Marcie's)
Belt: thrifted
Handbag: Aldo
