It played ok in Peoria. In retrospect, ripped jeans for a family holiday gathering (even a casual one) might have come across as inconsiderate/sloppy rather than fashion-forward. My grandmother-in-law (a wonderful charming woman) patted my leg and said "Dear, your jeans are torn!" and just as I was starting to say something apologetic, she burst out laughing and said she knew they were meant to be like that and she was just pulling my leg.</p> <p>Carambola, thanks for saying the flats look edgy. That's one of those little details that I try to get right so I'm glad it worked. I love classic ballet flats on others, but they're a little too feminine for my own style. So, I looked around for a long time til I found flats that seemed a little more me, and I'm very happy with these. They're FS/NY sloop flats. And yeah, my hair is quite long in back. I guess the length isn't noticeable from the front except with the braid, because I have so many short layers around my face to bring out the curls (else the length weighs it down too much).</p> <p>Rachylou, I like the waif comment! I wouldn't have described myself as waif-like (in the street-kid sense, not about size) but I think it fits sometimes.</p> <p>Gryffin - I'm so flattered to hear that, because I used to feel like I struggled with combining things well. Now that I have a better sense for what works, I usually try on a lot of combinations before I find the right pieces for an outfit.</p> <p>Angie - my eyes are more&nbsp;like blue-green than really clear blue. Never thought about it, but the temples of my glasses do bring out the blueness. Unfortunately my lenses are high power and make my eyes look small, so they're not my most noticeable feature.</p> <p>And yes, I forget that my long hair doesn't always show up in photos from the front but it is mid-back length.
