You look absolutely gorgeous in all of these outfits! I couldn't begin to choose a favorite! I think that your "baby-step" process is the way to go when first mixing prints and textures - it trains your eye and your family's and friends' - so that when you move on to a more bold pattern or mix, you will already feel comfortable in your skin with mixed textures and patterns. BTW - you look so natural in that last pic with the heels - I would never guess that that is a completely new look for you!

Melinda, I suspect that you aren't desensitized at all, but rather that what I consider pattern mixing is pretty basic mixing! I love pattern mixing on others, but I've always been hesitant to do it myself. Somehow my eye didn't permit it on me--it seemed to jarring.

The idea of mixing lace, one pattern on a shoe and another (and that--gasp!--snake) was totally beyond me, so this is no step at all for most of the fabulous gals here in the forum, but a giant leap forward for me!

Honestly, even #4 was a huge leap for me a few months ago. Crops and heels? They wear that in magazines, not anyone I know in real life and not me!

So really, I meant it when I said baby steps!!!

Gosh, I must be really desensitized to pattern mixing, all the patterns you use look really neutral to me. I really like your latest outfit, it doesn't look jarring to me at all.

You might actually succeed in converting me. Most pattern-mixing jars my eyes, but this is nice.

Thanks, Rae! The top is actually a perfect, very inky navy. One of those "is it black? is it navy?" colors. It works for my skin tone much better than a flat black, so I'm in love with it too.

Oh, I love the soft black and white look today! B/W can sometimes feel really aggressive, hard, and modern to me, but the eyelet top makes the look very pretty.

Great series so far, I agree you're doing a great job with your pattern mixing. Once you're comfortable with it there's no turning back But definitely don't give up smaller dose mixing, using varying levels of pattern mix keeps things interesting! Can't wait to see tomorrow's big print top.

Classy and classic. I think you're doing very well with the pattern mixing. Using the same tonalities, different patterns is definitely a good way to do it. I'm torn between which outfit I like most, they all say different things. I did really like the strong color blocking of #4... I might take a page from your book here and do an outfit in these colors.

Looking good!! Overall the outfits have lots of style and lots of subtle details, and they're done in a tasteful way. You might feel WAY out of your comfort zone, but you've made yourself on-trend just right :-)

I'm particularly fond of #4 - I can never get cropped pants that right length/fit! and in blue much less! Fabulous!!

A little bit more pattern mixing today. I'm wearing this navy BR shirt with patterned shoes and snakeskin bag. BR picture included since the lace doesn't show up very much in this photo.

I was wearing my leopard pumps from day 2 again, which I thought looked fantastic, but the hubs had a slight preference for these ones, so I indulged him. I would never, underscore never, have worn lace, calf hair leopard and snake skin all together in one outfit before, so even though this looks a little conservative, it feels like a major step for me!

Day 2 and Day 1 also included for the full picture of my pattern mixing stepping stones. Baby steps so far, but tomorrow or Monday, I'm going for a big print shirt. Wish me luck!
