For those who don't know what the Maine coastline is like, there are very few&nbsp;traditional beaches where you can lie on a blanket on the sand and walk right into the water. Instead it's all rocks, mud, seaweed,&nbsp;broken seashells, etc. So people build small docks like this from which to get in and out of the water. Also a convenient place to tie up a small boat if you have one. So my "plunking down" is like "lying on the beach". </p> <p><b>Sally</b> do you live near the water now? You certainly did earn your lobster, plus, assuming you were a kid at the time, you earned future points for adult warming beverages. &nbsp;My mom and grandfather swam in Maine a lot, and I did too until some time in my late 20's when I went to Florida for the first time. The warmer waters there ruined me forever for Maine water temps, except on a really hot day. </p> <p><b>kkards</b> I totally get you, I never want to live too far away from the ocean. It gets into your blood. Harpswell is a really small town, Brunswick is larger and more well known. I'm actually back at home now, this was a rare overnight. The tide was in so the dock was fully floating. When the tide is out the dock&nbsp;sits on the mud flats. The photo makes the dock look longer than it is. Maine ocean water is cold, even in a protected cove like this, so the air temp&nbsp;has to be well into the 90's without a breeze before I'd go into the water, and yesterday it was in the high 80's with a strong breeze off the water. </p> <p>WIW: </p> <p>Olive Tshirt - new this spring (that's not me in the find&nbsp;but I did look a lot like that at one time)<br />black bermudas - old<br />black clark sandals - old<br />straw hat - old </p> <p>what you cannot see is that the dock was rocking gently with the waves lulling me almost into sleep. Ahhhhhhhhhh........</p>
