It's really not a large conference - I'm sure I could recognize some of the costumes!<br />Rachy - There are times I seriously wonder that. It's a very different frame of mind.<br />skylurker - That is a very high compliment, thank you. Several years ago a friend made a dress from a Tissot painting; it's just lovely.<br />Karie - You would be in heaven! People are super friendly and love to explain how they did things or what the garment is; for example, the lady I was talking to copied a gown out of a German altarpiece. 0.0<br />Jenn - Many people do exactly that! There's a Starbucks in the hotel (and other guests, too!) and plenty of people watchers. There's a whole "red carpet" before the Gala expressly for people to watch costumes arriving.<br />Kristin L - Thank you so much! That is my newest one and there's a good bit of handwork in it. :)<br />Elizabeth P - Very funny! :p I had two checked backs, a big carryon, and a big "purse." Many people end up wearing big hats or bonnets on the plane. :p<br />viva - Thank you so much! That fabric was a very lucky online find and perfect for the dress.<br />Diana - Haha, that is a very different type of conference! That tiara has been with the Bernadottes for 200 years, so it was perfect. I'm on the left in a vintage mini dress. I've never worn a skirt this short without leggings, but I think it worked out okay!</p> <p>(2-5)&nbsp; Princess Leia, interpreted in a medieval style. The dress is a historical cut but in polyester jersey, the belt is screen-accurate, and the headdress is a historical style that may have inspired the original Leia. This was super fun to wear.</p> <p>(6) The whole group of Historical Star Wars. Right to left: Mod 60s Darth Vader, Edwardian Kylo Ren, Regency Bespin Leia, Medieval Classic Leia, Hippie Chewbacca, and 1950s BB-8.</p> <p>(7-9) Early 1860s sheer summer dress. I love sheer dresses; the layering effect is so pretty, and they're very light to wear.</p> <p>(10-11) 1780s white silk chemise-style gown. This is one of my very favorite gowns. The second picture shows a whole group of us from roughly the same years.</p> <p>(12-15)&nbsp; C. 1820 green silk dress trimmed with white satin and pearls, worn with a double pearl necklace and a reproduction cameo tiara which I customized.</p> <p>(16-17) Some of the fabulous other costumes at this evening event.&nbsp; Also, what happens when costumers get together. While I'm talking to the lady on the right (who hand embroidered all of the dark trim on her gown), two other friends are inspecting the trim on <i>my</i> gown. :D</p> <p>(18) 1815 blue silk faille spencer jacket, with a fine cotton muslin gown worn over a pink silk petticoat. Straw bonnet in the "Marie Stuart" style. There was a brief English style in the mid-1810s to abandon the high "Empire" waistline; this spencer design is taken from such a fashion plate.</p> <p>(19) After three days of fun and excitement and too little sleep... after a dance class, the photographer caught me a trifle warm and a bit silly!</p> <p>(20) Also in the dance class with me, this lady made this outfit to interpret Pocahontas at Jamestown c. 1616. I love this photo of her!</p> <p>It's both relaxing and boring to get back into regular clothes after a weekend like this. The memories last, though, and I'm already looking forward to next year! </p>
