I'm a fan of wide leg trousers, but I'm still learning how to style them, too, Diana.

Love your solution for the 2-in-1 dressing dilemma. The pink is gorgeous with the rich Bellatrix. Brava! Encore!

The pink and the lovely lacy jacket totally make this work as business casual without looking like too much of a departure from your style. And I do think the pants work well on you -- sort of a nice canvas for other pieces.

Really like the jacket on you and that color pink. The pants look great, and classic, but I think I might know what you mean. When I wear pants like that they are too snug feeling around the waist and feel too breezy at the ankles - the contrast in tightness throws me a little, and I feel like I'm dressing for the kind of job I don't have. I think the over-sized pants you describe could be fab too.

I feel the same way about wide leg pants but I think these look wonderful on you Diana. The fit is great. Love the jacket and adding the pink was genius. Have a lovely night.

The jacket is darling! I adore the print and cut. It's so pretty and feminine with the bonus of structure. I like the fuchsia and light gray trousers. I love wide leg trousers I think it emphases your narrow waist -- but I am biased in favor of wide trousers anyway.

Ha, Jules, maybe that is the problem. I don't actually need business casual more than maybe one pair of black trousers, you know? I just have it because I like to wear it sometimes. So maybe these are just too business casual or something, I don't know.

I love the pants. But I think they are kind of perfect compromise pants, especially if one has to work in a business casual environment. They are subtly wide without being arty, extreme, boho etc.
But you have a lot of statement pieces, and aren't really into compromises :)

To me this is an ideal "arty business casual" ensemble. I don't think you look sloppy at all - nor too stiffly tailored. The jacket really works fabric-wise with the trousers (which is a pet bugaboo for me, something that causes me trouble).

Very artsy chic.
The pants look very good and the whole outfit is anything but sloppy. It has enough movement but doesn't compromise the structure in any way.

I'm going to the symphony after work today and really wanted to wear a dress but it's too cold. Instead I decided to go with my wideleg Martin trousers and Bellatrix jacket for an arty business casual look. Although I'm a little too dressed up for lab, I will fit in well with the rest of my group tonight (J., his coworker, and her husband) as they are all coming from work where they actually have to wear business casual. Coincidentally, I think it is a good illustration of today's blog post! (And look, Angie, I remembered to link from it this time.)

Anyway, to amp up the arty side I chose to put a drapey bright pink silk top underneath instead of, say, a plain black shell.

I am still a little ambivalent about wide leg trousers. These feel like too much fabric in the legs for a tailored silhouette and kind of feel simultaneously too buttoned up and too sloppy at the same time. Could be the grey color too though. They are comfy though. In contrast, my black straight leg Martins are a lot easier to style for a tailored look. I'm wondering if what I really need are not tailored wide leg trousers but super drapey, oversized ones (like a paper bag waist style).

Bellatrix jacket, Anthro blouse, BR Martin trousers, Eileen Fisher booties
