<p>Diane, that steampunk party sounds like fun! I'd love to go to one of those (hmmm...perhaps I should *throw* one, hehe).</p>
<p>Alasse, I'm glad you think it looks like one too!</p>
<p>Thank you KM. Secondhand shopping makes quality clothes so much more affordable, but at my thrift stores I mainly seem to find &nbsp;the generic&nbsp;'mall brands' plus a few vintage goodies and every once in awhile some Anthropologie stuff (quirkier mall brand, I guess). Anyway, thank you so much for the compliment! And I'm glad I'm not the only one whose legs rejected Sorels. They're so cute, in a rustic/rugged way, but just not happening.</p>
<p>Thnx Unfrumped! My cardigans stay tucked pretty easily, so definitely try it. And yep, I thrifted this despite owning several grey cardis already, because I liked the buttons so much. hehe

<p>Beautiful outfit! And I also love finding unique looks out of mall brands (mostly because they are more affordable than independent boutiques, for the most part...) The cardigan and the blouse are amazing together--the buttons and the fabrics. That first pic looks out of a magazine to me. </p>
<p>I agree on the Sorels. I tried them on in a store and found them so heavy and rigid. They're all the rage here in MN where I live, and I love their look, but couldn't imagine wearing them myself.

<p>Such a delightful look! I do love the neckline of your silk blouse and your pendant. It does look like a magnifying glass doesn't it? It looks a little steampunk to me (I've been studying Steampunk looks for a themed party I have to go to) You snow boots and coat are fabulous and what's not to love about a red coat!

<p>Thank you Jackie! I love how red goes with grey &amp; blue as well. :)<div><br /></div><div>Alasse, I tend to think of the pendant as a magnifying glass, but it’s actually a locket; the glass bit opens. I suppose I could put something flat inside of it, but then it wouldn’t look like a magnifying glass! hehe I’m glad you enjoyed the outfit; after seeing your sashes in action lately my own wanted to play again!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Astrid! I’m glad the snow boots don’t look too bad, although they’re definitely casual. Luckily I have a casual life!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you TG; I thrifted this even though the neckline is lower than I usually wear because I couldn’t resist that blue. Luckily I feel more comfortable in lower necklines lately!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Angie; she is definitely a cutie pie. :D</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Shevia!</div><div><br /></div><div>Oh I’m so pleased to hear your boots have held up Jeanie! Did you do anything special to care for them? I’m new to winter boot maintenance.</div><div><br /></div><div>Joyce, I was *very* grateful to my socks, as it was at the beginning of my walk, and I couldn’t imagine enjoying a woodsy tromp with freezing feet. Ick!</div><div><br /></div><div>Suz, it’s a great coat for walking! And I bought this in large part because I wanted a toggle coat, so I understand your craving. The boots are very warm (they have a thinsulate lining); even when my feet were buried in snow they were snug &amp; cosy. I didn’t feel any cold at all. I just checked; they’re Teva Vero in the Dark Grey colourway. Unfortunately I think they’ve been discontinued; if you get a chance to buy a pair, be aware that they are fairly snug fitting. I have a size 7 (and like you my feet are happiest in a euro 37) &amp; I wouldn’t be able to layer socks inside them. These alpaca socks take up all of the available space. So depending on how roomy you like your snow boots, you might want to go a half size up. They’re very comfy on my high volume feet &amp; the laces let me snug them up to my calves.</div><div><br /></div><div>You make me laugh MG! I didn’t know you disliked the cold. I was secretly going for a bit of elegance, but I didn’t want to say so as I usually just end up cute, lol, so I’m thrilled to hear your thoughts on that. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Oh thank you so much Shiny. :D</div>

<p>Eva, you look wonderful in this! I love that teal-ish peacock-ish blue with the grey -- I can just imagine the textures, too. That's one of my favourite combinations, also, so I am sure it is super -flattering to you in person.&nbsp;</p>
<p>And the coat is just amazing with this. I am sure you did make somebody smile! Do you know, you are making me crave a toggle coat? It looks like a good piece for walking.&nbsp;</p>
<p>And then, the BOOTS! Those are fantastic! Were they warm? Do you know what model of Tevas they are? Good for you, for scoring them on ebay at a good price.&nbsp;

<p>That's a great outfit with so many beautiful details. I agree with Angie about the doggie!<br />
You were lucky to have the scrunched socks that prevented the snow from getting into the boots. There is almost nothing worse than getting snow melting inside your boots. Yuck!<br />
That was a geat tip-off on the Tevas.

<p>Can you tell I'm thrilled to have a cold, snowy winter again at last? I actually wore this outfit before yesterday's gingerbread one, on the day after the big snowstorm. Greys &amp; blues felt like another interpretation of the winter landscape, and I'd been wanting to wear a sash again, so I put together this easy look (this uniform is one of my FFBOs): wool cardi &amp; skirt for warmth, silk blouse &amp; sash for a hint of ballet romance. And cosy alpaca socks because my feet get cold so easily. (My inherent RATE-ness of course shows through with the unevenly slouched heights of the socks.) Funnily enough, this outfit is composed of all 'mall brands' (although I thrifted them): the skirt is Banana Republic, the cardi is J Crew, the blouse is Tahari, and the coat is Benetton. It's interesting&nbsp;that it's possible to get a vintage feeling outfit without any vintage clothes! Or maybe this doesn't look vintage to you guys. The lower neckline reminds me of the 18th century, which I've been more interested in since reading a few books about the period. Wait for me to start wearing kerchiefs tucked into my blouses, hehe.</p>
<p>For outdoors, I thought my red coat would make a nice contrast to the piles of snow, so I basically wore it for others' enjoyment. Which sounds silly written out, but perhaps I made the people trying to dig their cars out smile for a split second at least! I wanted to try out my new-to-me snowboots; after all of your helpful advice I ended up ordering Sorels &amp; Tevas to try on. The Sorels (I think they were Cate the Great?) rubbed my *calf* raw just walking around my house, and my hip joints were not at all interested in walking in something that heavy, while the Tevas felt like heaven on my feet, they were so light &amp; cushiony. Sadly, they'd sent black instead of the taupe I'd ordered &amp; didn't have any of the taupe left&nbsp;in my size. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise; I hopped on to ebay &amp; found a pair for only $40! Yay! Anyway, I'm very pleased with the warmth &amp; grip &amp; comfort&nbsp;of these boots so far, although we'll see how that supposedly weatherproof light suede looks at the end of the season. I must admit that on my walk to the woods, I stepped in a few drifts taller than the boots, so I might still have a wardrobe hole for truly knee high snowboots. Or I suppose I could get some gaiters. Or just pay more attention to where I'm stepping. ;)&nbsp;Luckily the scrunched socks let me just brush the snow off instead of it falling into the boot &amp; melting, which would have been awful. To bookend the taupe I put on my new very light sheepy grey hat and to keep my fingers warm I added my newly knit gloves, that are scrunched in these photos, but have a little leaves growing out of the wrist ribbing, which pleases me. Of course I knit them in grey, so that they'd go with all of my coats until I can get around to knitting more!</p>
<p>All feedback, criticism, etc. is always welcome &amp; appreciated. :)</p>
