Quite like it with the gray skinnies; gives a little additional color depth and lightens the look up a nice amount. Also really like the sleeves on the tunic, they look like a purposeful shape and length.

Thanks Diane for sharing your expertise! I was wondering what instructions I would give. The tunic does have binding around the neckline so this approach seems like a good idea.

I love the animal print top over black and the addition of the jacket works beautifully.

Re- sleeves. I think the tunic would look great sleeveless as I do find them to look a little heavy. It may be possible for a your dressmaker/tailor to trim the sleeve off leaving about an inch of sleeve all around the armhole and it might be possible to then use that bit of fabric as a binding for the armhole by folding it to the inside and stitching it down.

Thanks Deborah, Caro and Maneera! This is very interesting - I should have done a yay or nay on the "keep the sleeves" issue.

Caro, no worries about the wrap top. I did not get one either. Not the colours I want (autumnal). I am still keeping an eye out though!

You rock that look!! I think the black long sleeved top was a better pick over white...smart move. Love the jeans tucked into boots - you look fab!

And I think the 2nd pic with the jacket elevates the look further, making it very polished. I would keep the sleeves and repeat this outfit many times. Love the fur baby you have for an added accessory!

I love it with the jacket (& the fur baby). I would keep the sleeves & wear it with the jacket :)

I had a look at those wrap tops too, thanks for letting me know about them. I didn't buy one as they were too similar in colour to the one I have.

Brooklyn, this looks so good. I have a thing about layering long sleeves under shorter sleeves BUT, the black under the tunic actually work really well and I find the look here very attractive. A good dressmaker, I have one, should have no trouble removing the sleeves but I am conflicted because it a very cool tunic as is. I would definitely repeat this outfit. Maybe give it some time and see how you feel re the layering under before you make a final decision.

Thanks Murpheleven. Made my day! And thanks Shevia and Kiwigal! I do think the pup could make any outfit look good!

Thanks Smittie! And thanks for weighing in on the sleeves issue. I was thinking of chopping the sleeves right off at the shoulder seam. What do you reckon? Having very limited sewing skills, I am not sure whether this is hard or easy for a dressmaker. I would rather have the top as is (less than perfect) than botched up completely. If you know what I mean.

This is a great look!

I agree that the animal print looks better with a black top rather than white.

I'm really not sure whether grey or black skinnies are the best for photo 1 (without jacket). I like grey skinnies with black boots though. I also prefer the grey skinnies with the jacket you have.

Yah, get the sleeves cropped on the tunic! Were you thinking chop at the shoulder seam or leave a little?

I love it, and I think your instincts were correct here to wear the black layer. I happen to love black and animal print together so I am not objective I should warn you :)

The jacket adds to the look too, I love it with the tunic (and your dog).

So, I am partial to animal print. I decided the other day to wear my leopard print tunic out to do some shopping. It is winter here, and although the tunic is wool, I like to layer under it (I don't like wool against my skin).

Sooo, I started off trying out Angie's grey- white-animal print formula again. Initially I went with grey jeans and grey boots, white long sleeve top and animal print tunic. However, I found I did not like the high contrast between the sleeves of the white top and the tunic (I am actually thinking about having the sleeves removed from the tunic, because I am not wild about them). So I switched to a black long sleeve top. Then I switched to black boots.

So it ended up being grey-black-animal print. Does this work, or should I have ditched the grey and switched to black pants or skinnies? It was a day time outing so I thought the grey muted the animal print in a good way.

Pic 1: Grey Pepe jeans (ASOS), Lafayette 148 tunic (75% off from Gilt!), Vila long sleeve black cotton/modal top (ASOS), Frye boots, Kenneth Jay Lane necklace.

Pic 2: Same with tan Jigsaw wool jacket and attention seeking hound. Paws off my Fryes, hound!
