I love the sweater, especially in #3 - bit of a 70s vibe, and I love the extra contrast that the jacket brings. And I think this length, at least with this sweater/outfit, works for you quite well.

I think you look really good in all the pictures, and I would keep the orange sweater.
I will read the article linked by Isis, because I have a number of too short/outdated tops (I have already purged a few), but I think your orange sweater is very nice.

Thanks for the article link Isis - I had some feeling that there was reason behind top lengths, but hadn't figured it out yet. I'm tall-ish, and find a lot of tops on the short side. But I think I can layer this one (and another couple of short ones) over longer tops (when I find them!), or, like you and the article suggest, with skirts.

Love the colors in the sweater! And color is actually one of my style goals - as much as I like to wear an all-black outfit, I am usually back into color as soon as possible. It's an essential for me!

Love you in these colors! The sweater reminds me of vintage Benetton. Yes, it's a little short, but it is charming and it sounds like you've got things "covered." I believe in paying attention to proportions, but I feel free to make executive decisions and overrule the rules occasionally!

Your boy is too cute!

I think the top is too short to be worn with pants, so I vote return....here's an old primer, but I think it still holds:

http://youlookfab.com/2008/04/.....ver-pants/

This top would work with skirts, the colors are fab!

Honestly it looks a bit short on it's own but I love the idea of layering something longer under it, rather than over. I think you can make a lot with it.

Thanks! I'll keep the sweater. It has a tiny hole that I need to repair, but I don't mind making little repairs - just wanted to ask if it was worth keeping before I bothered.

It's this short (not tucked), and I couldn't wear it with my super-low-rise skinnies, I don't think. But with my normal-rise pants, it's no problem. I'm wearing an under-shirt, since it's 100% wool and just a tad itchy. With the undershirt, I have no problems, and I've been warm and comfy in it all day.

(Oh, and I did try wrapping the scarf, but liked it's looks more unwrapped - it looked a bit like a clown collar or something wrapped and doubled up....)

Thank you all! I'm glad that colors and RATE can go together. I like them both

Adorable accessory in #5!

I like #3 the best, although maybe not very RATE. I agree with the previous posters, try wrapping the scarf. It makes them more wearable as they stay out stuff and keeps you warmer.

I know what you mean about ruffles. Not natural for me either but it does look really pretty on you maybe give it a little loop. It also provides the color you crave. You really look good in this turtle neck. Imo not to bright or tight and if thats your sweet spot than it's probably long enough. Kind of hard to tell with out a straight on shot. Is it tucked? does your back or belly show when you lit your arms? You could layer it over a cami. I love all the help you get from the kiddos, adorable.

#1 WIW yesterday. I planned the outfit around the ruffle scarf that I wanted to wear to demonstrate to a friend what they were (I gave several away for Christmas). I don't really think all the ruffles are 'me', though I like the colors in this particular scarf a lot (it's a burgundy-purple varigate)

#2-5 My new-to-me red/orange/violet/gold striped gap sweater. I'm not totally sold on keeping it, but I like it's bright cheeriness. (Is it too bright? Too short? Too tight?) I wore it like in #3, even though I think it probably looked best in #5. The lighter jeans are warmer, and it's cold today.

(#5 bonus pic of my 5yo ds. When it's bright enough to not require a steady hand, he's often the cameraman. But my 6yo dd has the steadiest hand, so she's taken most of the recent pics)

And the style epiphany of the week is that I really like colors. I admire the black/white style of several of you (especially ceit and sveta recently). But when I look at pics of me without color (or even monochrome), it feels too sombre and stark (for black/white combos). I want to be bright and cheerful, colorful and still RATE. Is that weird? Is it even possible? (Oh, and not too much color - just enough to be cheerful, not enough to really stand out). It may be just a phase.... I don't know.
