Cool vest and jacket, Janet! I really like the outfit on you and think the Eileen Fisher jacket deserves to stay with you. It is so flattering. I agree that the leather sleeves keep it in line with your style.
The boot problem is frustrating! I've had zippers on boots do that and then straighten themselves out after a while. In my case they were rubbing but didn't get to the point of extreme discomfort. I've also had cowboy boots without zippers do that--where the leather bent in just below the ankle. Then they broke in all right, too. Maybe I just got lucky.

Ok! For grins, here's the leather top with the bandeau underneath -- first time I actually tried it on this way, and it's actually not as indecent as I thought it would be. The top is loose enough that you can't even see skin very easily.

However, the pajama bottoms I'm wearing don't go with it at all.

Thanks, everybody! I wasn't sure how the vest thing would be received but I love it. It was a chance find when I went back to look at those crossover pants again ( that effort was a bust -- can't find them anywhere online in the right size). I guess this was my consolation prize, and maybe that's just as well -- I think it will be easier to wear this piece than those pants.

Got a compliment on the EF topper at the grocery store, so that was nice.

I'm going to try a few things with the boots before giving up. Thank you for all the great suggestions!

The outfit is to die for! EF topper is super cool and lazer cut leather vest is unique.
Too bad about the boots. I had a pair of thong sandals from Nordstromand they were rubbing my big toe to blood. I took them back to Nordstrom after a year ( I wore them maybe 5 times total) and I think I also did not have a box - and they took them back.

Fab, fab, FAB! The leather vest worn like this is genius. Although I do want to see the bandeau, are you as good a sport as poor sick Suz? ;). And you must keep that jacket. The softer styling suites you, and the sleeves give just enough toughness to be "Janet". (Pushing Suz out of my way to get to check out Danier...).

Sorry about the boots, because the look amazing on you. I do suspect they will soften up with wear, but it might not be worth risking. One other idea is to wear damp sock in them... You could just make it wet where the spot that is rubbing is, to minimize impact on the rest if the boot. It shouldn't hurt the boot at all. Wear until the sock is dry. If it works to break in hiking boots, it should work here!

Unfrumped, that is a good point. It does seem to be a pressure point issue. Definitely worth a try, but I won't get my hopes up too high. I've already been cruising around Zappos looking at possible alternatives.

It as it appears it is not an open zipper but a gusset type zipper, then maybe you can put the moleskin or padding inside the boot. Worth a try though it could be that it's not a rough spot per se but is just pressure spot, no matter if padded. Then at some point you'd have to throw yourself on Nordie's return mercy if they are unwearable.

Not sure if this is the answer, Janet, but I have Moleskin at the ready for problem spots with shoes and feet. You can apply it to the shoe or the foot to help with rubbing, blisters and sore spots. I have a supply in my travel case, too, because I have big problems with my feet. You might check it out and see if that could help solve the problem so you can keep your beautiful boots.

Suz, I wondered if the cobbler might have an idea. I might even try some leather conditioner and a little heat to see if I can soften the stiffness, which would probably alleviate the problem. Donna, interesting suggestion about arch support! I really am not sure whether my supination issues are a result of arch -- I have suspected they're more because of my general alignment issues related to scoliosis (one leg is about 1/2" longer than the other, and I have hip alignment issues). I have insoles in the boots, but they're just the basic old cheap insoles.

Since AK mentioned pronation, I'm wondering if sticking in an arch support like SuperFeet or Dr. Scholls or the like would make a difference in how your foot sat and perhaps reduce the rubbing?

First off, your outfit is beyond fab. I really like the change up with the EF topper to the point where, like Jackie, I am wishing it had occurred to me to order one. Now I'll be madly checking Danier to see if they have something similar. I also love the perforated vest. Smart idea to layer over a button up.

For the boots -- what about checking with a cobbler to see if there's anything to be done? Or maybe putting moleskin on under your socks, or one of those blister bandages, and see if a few more wears won't loosen it? They look like terrific boots.

Una, I actually supinate -- the outer edges of my shoes wear out way before the rest of the sole, especially on the left! But it's an interesting connection I've never made before. I could see how that might contribute to this problem with these booties. I can't say I've ever noticed it with others though. The leather is fairly stiff.

Thanks for all the encouragement and feedback on the outfit and the EF topper. I think it's a keeper. It's quite warm, so I think I'll be wearing it more later in the season.

I'm so bummed about the boots. I might see if I can somehow soften or work the leather to ease the problem, but if I have no luck, I'll have to try returning them. They're so great otherwise -- just a little bit rugged but still streamlined. Not too much hardware or detailing, and I like the slightly distressed finish and the soft black. Perfect height for a rolled jean. If anyone has a recommendation for a replacement, please let me know. My other "rugged" booties are some old grey Doc Martens, but they're lace ups and very fitted around the ankles, with a bit of a heel, so the vibe is very different.

The leather top looks fantastic. Are you sure you don't want to show us with the bandeau top? :P I vote to cut the tags on the jackets, the silhouette is nice and soft, I like the contrast of the fabric with the leather sleeves, and the long lapels and seam detail. Bummer on the boots! If you really love them, perhaps a cobbler can saw bands of a stiff material inside along the zipper problem area... or, wear with double socks or rolled down socks to beef up the area where they are hurting you.

What a clever way to wear the leather top - never would have occurred to me to try it over a button-up shirt! The EF is a beautiful item and would certainly give you some variety in toppers. So sorry about the shoes. No suggestions on how to fix the problem, but it seems that if they are hurting you should give a return serious consideration.

Hey all, I have a WIW but also a problem I'd like your advice on.

First up, the WIW. I picked up this detailed leather "top" on a whim and a very good deal -- it came with a little bandeau top to wear underneath, I suppose if you're young and slim and daring. Uh, for me, not so much, but I envisioned this being worn without the bandeau thing and layered over different tops, as an easier layering piece than my tailored vests that button up the front. I've tried it on with a few pieces -- both knits and wovens -- and I think it will be fun with a few different options. I was anxious to break it out, so I threw it on today over the most basic combination -- jeans and a white button-down. I included a pic to show the detail and perforation (pic 10).

I then decided to try debuting the EF topper from NAS, which still has tags on it, mainly because the weather has just not been all that cool yet. But the season for it is starting. I have been a bit on the fence about keeping this, but once I put it on, I feel like it's a nice change of pace from my usual structured moto jackets and blazers. The leather sleeves keep it feeling more "me" and I like the way they play off the leather vest. Tags are still on. What do you think? Cut the tags and keep?

I tried to include a couple of pictures that are a little overexposed so you can see the color and texture of the pieces. Sorry for so many photos.

Now the problem. I love these Hinge booties from NAS -- they are a more rugged, slightly more voluminous bootie than my other ones, and I like the casual but simple vibe. I love the finish and color too -- they work with black, grey, brown... However, when I wore them the second time and did a lot of walking, the spot just below my left anklebone started to rub me in a most uncomfortable way. It seems as if the zipper is wrinkling in, and it's pressing on my foot. The same thing is happening on the boot on the right, but it only rubs me on the left -- my left foot and ankle are larger than my right. I don't see sizing up as a solution though, because these already have plenty of room in the foot, enough that I wear thicker socks with them.

I don't want to give these boots up, and I've already worn them twice (and I think the box went out in the recycling), so I don't know if Nordstrom would entertain the idea of a return. Does anyone have any ideas?

In the meantime, I changed into my Ugg Cortonas (6). Pics 7-9 are the Hinge booties. You can see how the leather underneath the zipper wrinkles up when you zip the boot up -- it doesn't create a problem on my right foot, just the left. I wonder if it can be softened up more? There's got to be some solution. I can wear them unzipped, but it makes them a bit more floppy and RATE than I really want to wear them.
