My last big purge was based on things that no longer fit, so it was easier. This one will be tougher.<br />Suz- I'm sure I will feel much better. I do have a really small closet but a lot of drawer space and I'd like everything to fit.<br />Vickie- I set up my spare bedroom as a closet too, until I broke 3 standing wire racks. When my boys left home I took a bedroom and made a closet. You would think you could contain your stuff to a whole room. But when I finally gutted up and did it, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I came in well under 300 items of actual clothing (coats, workout gear, shoes, underthings,&nbsp;and costumes excluded).</p> <p>I have been purging pretty regularly over the past few years, as I buy, but it's still a plesant surprise :)</p> <p>I love Alexandra's method of purging. One thing I like for me is "If I ran into [high school crush/person I admire] wearing this right now, how would I feel about that?" Wow! It sounds like you have a daunting job ahead of you - good luck with it (and plenty of clarity to make your decisions easier).</p> <p>My wardrobe is smaller than average but at one point I had a huge stash of fabrics and more books about sewing and knitting than I've seen in any library. It actually felt paralyzing (instead of feeding my creative spirit). So last year, I gave away 90% of it all. Very liberating. </p> <p>The biggest lesson I learned from the big purge was not to pick out things to give away. Because the tendency is to pick fewer pieces than we leave sitting there. So I turned it on its head and started picking out pieces to keep. Only the books and fabrics I really wanted to keep, as in would buy them right then if I didn't have them.
