I've got other vintage coats, but not all of them have it. One a fine nubby black from the early 1940s (also trimmed with Persian lamb, interestingly) does have it. But a lightweight dark blue herringbone just has silk, as does an early/mid 1930s trimmed with blonde fur.&nbsp; A heavy early 1930s coat (with NRA label) (and Statue of Liberty buttons!!) has a plaid flannel lining plus interlining. I wonder if that thick satin was a new thing in the 1940s.</p> <p><b>DonnaF</b>, I'm being pretty careful with this one! It had a couple of nips when I got it (they were disclosed) so I'm fully aware of the risk. So far, so good.</p> <p><b>Jjsloane</b>, you are so right. It just feels so <i>right </i>when I slip it on. My one regret is that I couldn't get the replacement collar sewn on just like the original; it doesn't feel quite the same any more when I hook it up. Maybe I'll take another try at fixing it someday. We found an amazing early 1940s coat at a vintage sale: crimson wool, with a big wide-lapeled/shoulder fur collar piece AND 6" hem border, probably in mink. It was something ridiculous like $40. The skirt is definitely flared but not super full.<br />Material: Dark blue wool (not navy), smooth, with a slight sheen. Collar of black Persian lamb - also vintage, though not original. (The original was drying and a piece fell out, so I had to replace it. I do have it still.)</p> <p>It is lined with that thick rayon satin that vanished decades ago. Originally blue, like many rayons (even modern) it has gone purple. There is a thick interlining as well, so it's quite warm.</p> <p>The design is princess-seamed, and double-breasted to the waist. The overlap and button placement narrows at the waist.&nbsp; The collar can be worn open, or with a large fur hook, will close snugly and warmly around the throat.</p> <p>I love the full sleeves and turned-back cuffs. The pockets are shallow, but look cute and are useful.</p> <p>Until I discovered puffers a few years ago, this was my warmest coat. It's definitely still the first choice when I wear full skirts. It makes me happy! </p>
