Your outfit is quite inspirational and I want to try something similar.
I feed hummingbirds using the same formula that you use. We have yet to see a nest and are lucky if a pair stays rather than just passing through.

Great pics of the hummingbirds. I don't think I have ever seen them actually in the nest so this was wonderful. I love your outfit! So effortlessly chic!

Oh, how wonderful, Vicki. Every year I look forward to the return of the ruby-throated hummingbirds to my garden and feeders, and then mourn their migration back south knowing that it will be months of cold weather before we see them again.

This spring I followed a webcam of an Allen's hummingbird nest in Simi Valley, CA and watched the two eggs hatch and their feeding and care until they fledged. Such amazing, beautiful creatures. Hummingbirds are fascinating to learn about.

How cute! We have some that like to buzz our backyard. I learned a few years ago that having a pink/red bathing suit was *not* a good idea (they think you're a giant flower), lol!

@VC, what interesting information about hummingbirds. I never knew the families come back year after year.

Thanks, my friends, and vc, this is great news! I don't have the "red" nectar, but make my own (2 cups of boiled water mixed with 1/2 cup of sugar). I love it that the birds are accustomed to our formula and I welcome the return of any hummingbirds any time.

You're right, vc; I notice they do like to feast at a particular time and I will give them a covert viewing as you've described. Thanks!

I love these photos - thank you so much for sharing with us - and you look great in your denim shorts and navy top.

I bet those hummingbirds will be back - even if they've finally flown the nest. The sugar nectar in the feeder (not to mention having a fab hostess) will keep them coming back to your yard. Have you considered hanging the feeders in front of a kitchen or dining room window? I found that hummingbirds like to come to the feeders just before dark...and if you have all of your kitchen or dining room lights turned off, you can sit there and watch them. You might even be able to shine a flashlight on their breasts as they slurp up the sugar-y goodness in the feeders. This won't disturb them, and you'll be able to see some amazing shimmery-looking colours.

Hummingbirds just seem to like hanging out at feeders late in the evening, just before it gets dark. Like I said, you can sit there in your dining room, looking out the window, with the interior lights all turned off and watch them in all of their graceful and delicate beauty. It's not dark out and it's also not exactly light. This is just when they like to congregate around any feeders you might have put out. Try it some night....turn off all the lights in your dining room or kitchen or wherever you have feeders in the window. It's wonderful to watch!

By the way, the same families will keep coming back - and it's because they like your yard, and they've become accustomed to your particular sugar nectar formula. If they go somewhere else, the sugar water won't be quite right, the ambiance isn't quite the same and so on. They'll be back Those same baby hummingbirds will come back to your house year after year.

:)

How amazing that the little hummingbird, who has been living and growing in our courtyard, should depart from the nest on Independence Day! I love it when coincidences, like this, happen!!! I've been taking photos of the two little ones and yesterday I captured the last of two hummingbirds and today there was an empty nest. What a thrill to see that they are flying free and I replenished the sugar nectar in the feeder in the backyard and I do hope the little ones find their way.

Here are a few photos of the babes and one of what I decided to wear today: Old Ralph Lauren short-sleeved navy back-zip top, Tilly's jeans shorts, old Ferragamo mustard and black yellow loafers, animal print belt.
