<p>Thank you Approprio! It's actually stranded colour knitting, like fair isle, in which both colours of yarn are used through the whole round; I haven't learned how to do intarsia yet. Hence why the swans go all the way around the yoke. :)</p>
<p>Ruth, thank you so much! I added the swirly bits to the cuffs myself (it's around the body ribbing too, but you can't see that when I tuck it in), so I really appreciated your comment.</p>
<p>Beth Ann, I definitely suspect my love for autumn and cold winters has a lot to do w my love for woolen a! I'm definitely a much happier knitter up north than I was in south Texas. :)</p>
<p>Thank you AM!

<p>Such a perfect look for a snowy winter!&nbsp; You knit work is excellent -- the fit is good and the stitches look so even and smooth.&nbsp; Brava!&nbsp; The sweater is beautiful, and you've styled it well.&nbsp; No wonder you moved!&nbsp; More months to wear your handmade sweaters!

<p>Late to your post, E, but I've got to join in all the swan sweater love.&nbsp; That's a neat little bit of contrasting detail near the cuff. The&nbsp;greys/cream/pink make a gentle, soothing colour palette. Fun to read the background - I hadn't actually heard that particular Grimm fairytale before).&nbsp; I'm glad you and Thistle are both enjoying the snowy weather.

<p>I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I did. I've read one of her other books (<i>Dancing Goddesses</i>)&nbsp;&amp; loved that one too (in fact I received both for Christmas so that I can reread them at will!): she's great at doing cross-disciplinary archaeological research, with a focus on women, and writing about it in an academic yet really engaging way.

<p>Thank you GreyCat! I’m glad you find the colour flattering; this is on the brighter side of what I wear, but I think the nettle mixed in helps (it doesn’t take as much dye as wool, so it softens the colour). And yep, I’d far rather be adventuring outside in the cold than the heat. hehe<div><br /></div><div>Thnx FuzzyLogic! I actually see all of the imperfections in this close up (I’m still quite new to two colour knitting so haven’t mastered that yet &amp; I was knitting with the other hand for the basic stitches &amp; the yoke was first, so it gets better further down, lol), so I appreciate that. I do feel happy whenever I wear it! And yep, this would be my Narnia outfit too! Now to bumble into the right wardrobe…</div><div><br /></div><div>Aww: thank you KM! As I said to FuzzyLogic, this is definitely not my finest work (100% wool is more forgiving), but luckily no one in real life is going to be an inch away from my chest. LOL I’m so glad the sweater doesn’t read as juvenile to you! I actually did wear it with tweed trousers for its first outing, so I’m with you on instinctively opting for a more rugged bottom.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx RetailGirl! I feel very complimented by the Natalie comparison. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Tanya! I’ve knit a lot of accessories (I’ve been knitting for almost two years now), so I’ve definitely had practice in that sense.</div><div><br /></div><div>Lol Jeanie! The original skirted leggings…a skirt over leggings. ;D</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Shevia! I’m really reveling in winter, so I’m relieved Thistle has come to enjoy it as well.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you WestSideSue! That’s an interesting interpretation of the story. I tend to be hesitant about feminine/masculine binaries, but I do like what you say about ‘quiet’ bravery &amp; commitment. And I appreciate the dressing compliments!</div><div><br /></div><div>You made me laugh Roxanna! I’m glad the photos counterbalanced my description &amp; I’m relieved you don’t find the sweater twee (I try to avoid that but my native preferences skirt very close to the line).</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Karie!</div><div><br /></div><div>Firecracker, if you haven’t read Women’s Work: the First 20,000 Years, I highly recommend it!!! It’s mainly about textiles (primarily in Europe/North America) &amp; I can’t imagine anyone who sews not finding it enjoyable. It’s very well written too.</div><div><br /></div><div>Aww: thank you Frannie! I’ve had almost two years of practice now; I started with a hat too. Your hands will suddenly figure out what they’re doing, and then you’ll be flying through the stitches. I’m glad to meet another one who prefers wool coats over puffers; Diana’s in our club too! hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Jackie. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Suz! It does bring me joy; having knit two sweaters makes me more eager to figure out how to sew than ever. There’s something extra-special about hand made wardrobe pieces &amp; I’d like to have a few more. (Although really I love all of my closet…and thrifting will always be my only option for really high end fabrics, I suspect.)</div><div><br /></div><div>Diana, I worried the yoke style would make me look too broad, but this one has some really good short row shaping that drops the neckline a bit &amp; keeps it from looking too awkward! I’m read Amy Herzog’s Fit to Flatter book to get ideas on fit, but honestly this pattern fit me with pretty much no modification, so I lucked out. I wish patterns included their schematics in the description (instead of having to buy it first), so that knitters could see if it matched their own shapes! I’m so glad that the colour &amp; design read as sophisticated to you; sometimes I overthink things in my own head. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Celia! I’m lucky to have one of the sweetest pups ever!</div><div><br /></div><div>Astrid, it’s definitely not my second project! Just my second sweater. I’ve knit quite a few hats &amp; socks &amp; mitts by now, and a few baby items, so my hands have gotten a chance to figure out what they’re doing. hehe The first time I wore it with my wool tweed trousers, but I hadn’t though of combining it with my velvet ones. I’ll definitely try that soon!</div><div><br /></div><div>Gaylene, that sounds like a beautiful illustration! Thank you so much for the outfit feedback. I agree that it’s nice to dress for others as well, even strangers; my style is definitely not the environmental norm around here, but I like to think I’m injecting a bit of fun into people’s day when they see me. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>MG, 12 brothers/swans would be so intense! That’s double the shirts! Eek! The yoke creates 8 swans, so not quite fairy tale perfect, but close enough (I really only tried to resist for about thirty seconds, LOL). I only discovered Valente last year, which is tragic because I spent so many years without her in my life, but also good because it means I have almost her entire backlist to read! (So far I’ve read all 3 of the Fairyland books &amp; the first of the Orphan’s Tale ones; I’m trying to space her out a bit). Anyway, I utterly adore her, so I’ll make&nbsp;<i>Six Gun Snow White&nbsp;</i><span>the next book of hers I try! I read Tanith Lee’<span>s Snow White retelling last year (<i>White as Snow</i>), which was very intense, and mixed it with the Persephone myth (another of my childhood favourites).</span></span></div><div><br /></div><div>Awww: thank you Angie. I feel so lucky to have her in my life; she’s brought such joy and comfort and laughter to it.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Shipskitty! It’s difficult for&nbsp;‘mere mortal’ clothing items to compete with that coat. lol I really need to photograph it with its (detachable) cape for you guys! (It also has a detachable hood.)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Windchime!</div><div><br /></div><div>Runcarla, I do love clothes with a story &amp; how different outfits can tell such different ones! That outfit challenge would be great fun for me; I’m not sure how many other forum members are interesting in folk/fairy tales though.</div>

<p>And Lyra is back is full swing!&nbsp; I don't think the sweater makes your shoulders look broad so much as your waist look small.&nbsp; Also, it's sort of Faire Isle-y from a distance, which is quite nice.&nbsp; I lurve the idea of a swan sweater from nettle; I wouldn't have even tried to resist.&nbsp; (In all the versions I've read of that tale, it's *twelve* brothers/swans, yikes!)&nbsp; The pink is a really good color you too.&nbsp; </p>
<p>Have we talked about Cathrynne Valente before?&nbsp; I just read <i>Six Gun Snow White</i>, which is, I think, one of the most original and interesting fractured fairy tales I've ever read (and they are one of my favorite genres, so I read tons and tons of them).

<p>Wow, fabulous sweater! I also loved that fairy tale as a child; mine was illustrated with line drawings of the sister sitting at her spinning wheel while the swans flew around the tower, waiting. </p>
<p>You've created an amazing outfit by pairing the sweater with neutrals with the same vibe, and, if I caught a glimpse of you, it would be a bright spot in my day. I think we sometimes forget that the happiness factor doesn't just have to be for ourselves, and that others can also get a great deal of pleasure from our outfits.

<p>What an excellent sweater! I can't believe it's only your second and you made such a well fitting sweater... You don't even want to know what kind of monstrosities I made for my first few! You're so lucky to have a body type that suits the round yoke styles so well. They are always so gorgeous but look rotten on me. </p>
<p>I think the color and the motif are both quite sophisticated actually, feminine and fun but in a grown up way. The nettle yarn is so interesting! I want to go check it out now. </p>

<p>What a beautiful sweater! And such a lovely job you have done on it. It must bring you great joy to wear it. Love the backstory about the fairy tale.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The whole outfit is beautiful, and I love the "bundled" version just as much as the indoor one. Thistle looks super cozy and ready to romp!&nbsp;

<p>I like how you've tucked your beautiful hand knit sweater! Really nice that it was inspired by a fairy tale. Gosh you are creative. And Thistle's sweater is perfect too. You both look cozy for those brrrrrrrr cold temps!

<p>Wow, that is an amazing sweater and then I caught you also knit the mittens. You are an amazing knitter. I'm barely able to get the hat I'm knitting done.<br />The outwear outfit is so fashionable and sticks to your style persona while looking warm. I'm also with you in the cold I prefer a wool coat over &nbsp;puffer.</p>

<p>The sweater is lovely. The muted pink suits the feminine design beautifully, imo, and it looks gorgeous on you. I like the way you're wearing it with the retro-looking skirt. The shape of the skirt balances your shoulder line nicely. And you look terrific bundled up, along with Thistle in her little hand-made sweater! <br />When you said you had knit a sweater from wool and nettle, I thought, ouch! I had the same impression you did all those years. Thanks for explaining!

<p>The drape and detail of that skirt is fabulous and really helps balance out the proportions. I'll admit that when I was reading your descriptions about a pink and white hand knit swam sweater I was a bit reluctant, but the finished product is lovely. The pink is earthy and suits you so well and the design is modern and not twee. So lovely (and of course I love the literary pedigree!)

<p>Really lovely sweater, and I love the complexity of meaning you have knitted into it. The concept of the bravery and the commitment of the feminine saving the masculine from losing itself in wildness is a very powerful concept to be embodying. You have a very clear and unique vision of what you want to present to the world, and are doing a&nbsp; great job of it.

<p>That sweater is beautiful! It does not look juvenile at all. I remember that story of the six swans. Although the finished visual is different, your approach to style reminds me of Natalie's, ( Goldenpig.) you both think about the components of each outfit, how they relate, and you really tell a story. And your pup is adorable.

<p>I absolutely love it! (And it looks flawless in the close-up. You are a talented knitter!) I love pink and I love whimsy, so for me this is wonderful and not juvenile at all. The swans are stylized enough that they don't look childish. I also love this shade of pink, it looks earthy in the pictures.</p>
<p>Not sure what others think, but I would pair this with a cream, brown, or tweedy bottom, tailored to counterbalance the sweetness of the sweater. </p>
<p>Oh yes, and I also love your back story. I am a big fan of fairy tales and of outfits that have a literary life in them.

<p>Oh, you are clever E! &nbsp; Those stitches are so even! &nbsp; And I love the significance of pairing the yarn with the motif&nbsp;- too, too&nbsp;beautiful. &nbsp;I hope you feel happy every time you wear it!! &nbsp;</p>
<p>Your 'rugged up for the snow' outfit is perfect! &nbsp; It's what I would wear if I were to visit Narnia!
