See, I like the "too-big" jeans AND the top but the cami is throwing me off. That's why I don't buy really cropped items any more unless they are pre-attached to something that works. You have a great midsection for a fitted look, but I think the top needs to go with either bared skin or something high-waisted.

A dress is a good idea. I have a tank dress that might be slim enough to go with it well. It is a bit of a sack dress, though, and I think waist definition is important under this shirt. I'll have to try it and see.

I tried it with my highest-waist jeans (waistband on my navel), but my torso is so long that it leaves a lot of skin exposed. And tucking in a cami seemed to break up the line too much. However - the exposed skin would be totally fine for weekend wear, so maybe I'll just do that next time. I do have one pair of dress slacks that are high enough, but they are too nice to wear to lab. I saw some nice cotton high-waist pants recently - maybe I'll give them a try.

These jeans are fine in outfits with loose tops, but they're just not that flattering in any case and the rips are getting too ripped over time. I bought them as emergency jeans last year when everything was too small, and I'll probably keep them as backup, but I have other loose-fit jeans that are better for most outfits.

I think the pants could have a "dystopian movie" cool if styled differently --- do you have "room" for a "roomy" pair of distressed jeans?

I really like this too on you, and like tha pairing with the black jeans. I got the same top in white and have been wearing it mostly with very high waisted bottoms.
I also 100% agree with you on BR last season- I know most people disliked it, but I really enjoyed the fresh look and am a bit sad they gave up on it.

Greyscale, may I suggest that you pair the top with high waisted pants/jeans or a regular skirt. The length of the camisole looks off to my eye, and takes away from the architectural integrity of the top.

The top could also work well over a sheath dress.

I really like the crop over the tank. I have a cropped top that I like to wear over a dress. It takes the thought out of figuring out the right layers.

I actually really love the top (and tank treatment) on you! I do think the jeans look a bit big, so I understand what you mean there. I'm not feeling oversized jeans anymore, which may be convenient since some of mine that were distinctly baggy 3 years ago are much less so now. :-/

ETA: I love the idea of white jeans with this!

I like how this works ... did you get the idea from Lisa's kensie top? It is difficult to see the fit of the jeans, but I like the idea of white ones as an alternative also.

Cool idea. I don't own any white jeans but I considered getting some. The Gap had some that I loved but never bought, last year. Slim boyfriends with a weathered finish that wasn't pure white. It was very much my style. I'd shock everyone at work if I came in white jeans, which would be fun.

Though I haven't been posting here much, I've been wearing a lot of white shirts recently. I like the contrast with my usual black.

This is totally perfect and you are so cool! But yeah, the jeans are just a bit big on you , that's all. I really like that top - especially with a tank under like this . Do you wear white jeans at all? It would look great with those too .

Or maybe not so challenging. I bought this BR cropped shirt last year -- I know a few of you have the same one. I loved the concept, but I've only worn it a few times. I couldn't figure out how to make it work without baring too much midriff. I finally found a light tank top that fits under it and covers the gap. Obvious in retrospect!

The other challenge is just getting used to the boxy look. Until I took these photos, I thought this style of top wasn't the best on me -- but once again a photo changed my perspective.

On the other hand, these ripped Zara jeans look less lovely than I'd thought. They really are just too big, and the extra fabric of the jeans and the tank top combine poorly. I'll try this outfit again with relaxed skinny jeans and a slimmer cami, and consider passing these jeans along.

I did really like the BR offerings the season this shirt came out. Unconventional shapes, interesting ideas. I can see why it wasn't commercially successful but the few things I bought from BR that year have all become favorites.
