It must be great to have an "essentially finished even if not quite your taste" kitchen in which to function while everything else is chaotic. We did a kitchen re-do about a year after moving to our current house and the 3 weeks of no-kitchen was maddening for me. The most annoying was that without consulting me, my spouse OK'd the contractors demolishing our kitchen on a Friday, even though they weren't going to get to starting the installation til Tuesday, so I felt I lost my kitchen for three extra days. When I asked why they couldn't have demo'ed on Monday, they said, "well, they had a crew on Friday."
