It doesn't read as pastel to me, more muted/dusty. I MUCH prefer it without the cardigan. Perhaps try with a more cheerfully colored topper so you've got more pep in the look? Cheerful brights can actually pair quite nicely with pastels. Think mint+tomato red, or blush+bright orange, or lilac+cobalt.
