We started last night with Yellow Face by David Henry Hwang. First we went over the controversy about casting Jonathan Pryce as a Eurasian character in Miss Saigon when it came to Broadway in 1990 -- Hwang led a protest and Actors' Equity initially barred him from playing the part but later relented after the producer threatened to cancel the production. Then we started reading the play aloud -- Yellow Face is a comedy about Hwang himself writing a play and inadvertently casting a white actor to play an Asian role. Today I had lunch with a friend and a voice lesson, and later this evening I'm starting a new class at the Pasadena Playhouse: Play reading book club, which should be super fun. Nothing in this outfit is very new except the shirt but I liked how it all came together. The shoes are VERY VERY old, Stripey the bag is several years old and the pants and vest are from last year.</p> <p>Thanks for looking and commenting. Anybody else still waiting for summer to really hit? </p>
