I know what you mean about field jackets. I went through a lot before I found one that was nearly perfect. They have to have a waist cinch, good pockets, no extraneous decoration especially faux military decoration, and not cost $500. I bought a couple last year. In this post I asked if I should get it in navy as well as olive. I thrifted it in, I think, 2010. It's all cotton and made by Gap, back when Gap made things that fit me perfectly. It's a year-round workhorse, but is really at its best in the spring. I've removed the sweater layer, since it's now 60 degrees and sunny, and it's great with just a layering tee underneath. I kind of still love bootcuts, especially in a subtly retro application like this -- with the chunky turtleneck I feel this has a bit of a 70s vibe. The jacket is the Madewell Fleet jacket, scored at my consignment shop last month. I'm on the fence about it. I love the color, but it's a smidge tight in the shoulders over a sweater, fits better over a tee. I'll probably keep it til I find something "more perfect" -- the perfect field jacket is a seemingly endless quest for me. I enjoy wearing this sweater with my burgundy chukkas (from Soft Star), just matchy enough. Oh, and apart from the shoes and sunnies, everything seen here is secondhand. </p>
