I typically wear jeans on the bottom and a button down shirt or plain knit on top. Basically the same attire I'd wear to a casual dinner out. Except no shoes, we are a no shoes inside the home household. Instead I wear slippers, I've worn Haflingers for year, my favorite brand. We have not had this happen, but decades ago when living in England some friends were so late that it was really difficult keeping the meal warm without spoiling it. And no cellphones to check in 1988! It was my old NZ flatmate and her new English flatmate, who she later married and brought to live in NZ. We are still friends and now know to assume they may be late, not as badly as back then!<br /> I love your beautiful table setting and glad you had fun anyway. My husband, like Bijou’s, is a better cook than me. I do usually try to make or prepare at least something- like cutting the vegetables in preparation for roasting. I try to wear attractive but comfortable clothing and often an apron during prep. Pretty shoes if possible as we are not necessarily a shoes off house. Some people assume their shoes should be off at the door. Floors are wooden so only stilettos might cause an issue. Visitors don’t generally wear those.<br /> I love your sparkly sneakers of course and am happy to have a fellow Fabber keep shoes for a decade! When hosting guests, my DH is the cook, he is way better in the kitchen than me. I generally wear a nice dress and super comfy shoes, as I run around dealing with serving (with an apron on) and drinks etc. I have an apron with Westies on it from Harrods and that is always perfect given my two Westies love visitors and gently like to be part of the action providing a warm welcome to anyone that visits. I spent the day cooking and we cleaned up the house and Hubby set a pretty table. By 6:00 we were all ready. By 6:30 our friends hadn't shown up so I texted, and it turned out for she thought we'd forgotten we'd invited her because we saw her a few days ago and didn't mention it. I told her to come on over anyway, which she did although her date wasn't available, and we ended up having a great time.</p> <p>Anyway, top is from a Short Story box, drawstring-waist navy pants are from a Korean boutique in my local mall, I've had the pink sparkly Keds for ten years. And you can't see it, but I'm wearing pink Druzy quarts earrings to match my pink sparkly sneakers. The necklace was a gift from a dear friend. Casual and comfy for hosting.</p> <p>What do you like to wear when hostessing? </p>
