I like the first look, not so much for being a “sandwich” as because I like the shine and shape of the boots, and because the belt takes it up.a notch.

Both outfits look great--I love #1 because I love burgundy. I like the white sleeves peeking out. You could even wear it over a collared white shirt so both collar and sleeves peek out for more dramatic effect. I have similar burgundy boots so I love your boots too! Maybe a leather moto or statement jacket over the sweater?

And for the cream jacket, it looks great, maybe you could leave it open over a striped T shirt like the one below to give it more interest if you're bored with the way it is. I love formulas, and sandwich dressing is a yay from me, and as unfrumped says, I love matchy matchy so I'd have not only the matching bread, but I'd pile on more ingredients to make a whole matching sub!

I don’t like uniform outfit formulas myself particularly, I get bored. But I do tend to wear a mock-neck under my interesting patterned knitwear (much of it from the 80s and 90s) with pants a lot of days in our winter, so it probably is one! And I match my boots to some colour in the knitwear, so it could be called a sandwich. Mine is just never with jeans. I’m a bit surprised your jeans are warm enough. Maybe you have something warmer underneath or good heating.

I would do #1 for a week in a row, ‘cause the boots are so swish and the silouhette makes my Classic heart beat faster. #2 looks like a modern London or New York street style pic. Carry on!

Both outfits are super fab and do not look tired at all to me. The formula works, especially with your interesting, well-chosen pieces. I especially like that zip cardi, and it's a good complement to the combat style boots.

Love it--sandwich formula is something I will have to remember, as I am starting the year with trying to remember easy, easy ideas.

To make things more interesting, as you said, you could add a statement jacket--like a roomy leather or suede. Without the jacket, you could change the under layers for an interesting color, like a brown in #1, or a red in #2. Also, if you are not quite sure about #2, you could switch jeans for a long skirt. I bet a long skirt would look great with those shoes.

Re the tee peaking out on the sirs…it’s started as a way to protect my sweaters from hand washing, but it as definitely evolved into something else. It’s a subtle way to lighten a dark outfit and show some “skin’ in the winter.

You sandwich with the best of them :)

Personally, I prefer #2 to #1 because I prefer cream to Burgundy. 100% biased! And while I don't wear cropped flares these days - (simply prefer other silhouettes) - you wear them soooooo well!

I think both outfits are great, and #1 is the Platonic idea of a sweater, jeans, and interesting shoes. The touch of white at the cuff makes it an outfit.

I like them both.

I like to “sandwich” also even though that means not always bookending hair color or keeping a long leg line.

I occasionally come across discussions of “ don’t do this or that “ and most are very anti- matchy. I do like to remember to try new combinations, and sometimes very intentionally un- matching, especially if adds a special way to add texture or special interest, is great, and good SYC/outfit creation
But I am pretty determined not to force “ unmatching” to conform to the Debbie Downer fashionistas.

I know Angie is a big matcher ( as well as clasher !), and now Goldenpig has re-joined the fray , so I look forward to seeing more matchy- matchy.

It also is pretty unavoidable for me since I have some go- to colors.

Yay! I love both but have special affinity for the first outfit, which I would wear in a heartbeat. I’m not much of a white boot person myself, since I generally prefer to keep the lower half of my dressing low-contrast. But I know Angie will love the second one even more. :-D

I really like the small detail of the white tee popping out — I’ve been trying to do that lately with a white tee under my crew neck sweaters. But the neckline is often not close enough to show — I think I need a crew neck tee with a tighter neckline for this kind of layering. The sleeve is a great alternative!

Sandwich dressing has become my FFB outfit Formula. For me, it’s an easy way to pull something together that’s giving “I thought about this’ vibes instead of “hey, it’s just my uniform” of jeans and sweater.

1st outfit was inspired by the team burgundy vs team brown post. This sweater is one of my oldest, not even sure how long I’ve had it, but it’s a favorite for its color, and the cashmere is just about the best I’ve never felt. The belt is great for the color and personality. The boots are new and are soooo me, patent leather and burgundy, yes please.

2nd outfit, dressed from the boots up. It was raining this morning, so started with water resistant boots, then matched this, again really old, cream sweater. This is one that I like because I think the pockets and double zip give it athleisure vibes, but dressier. And then cropped jeans to allow the boots their moment.

I’’m super happy with #1, feel #2 is serviceable, but overall look is starting to look tired.

What do you think? Are you also relying on one outfit formulas to just make getting dressed easier ?
